Breaking News: Nats Outright Young to Triple-A

Here is the one sentence press release:

First baseman Dmitri Young has been outrighted to Syracuse of the Triple-A International League. The Nationals’ 40-Man Roster now stands at 35.

The Nats can't waive him, or they'll be on the hook for his salary anyway, and he obviously won't decline the assignment, so he becomes the highest paid player in the minors.  That's good roster maintenance.

That's 4 roster spots opened up now...

Cordero, Wagner, Orr and DY…now hows about we start adding a few…I can’t wait til they announce the trade for Fielder…, uh I mean signing of Dunn. Hey, maybe DY can surprise us all and grab his second comeback player of the year award…

roster spots

just how many Rule 5 guys are they planning on taking? :-)

this really opens the door to a significant move at first base/left field. Dunn is the fit here. if Johnson can play, Dunn would go to left and Kearns to the bench. if Johnson can’t go, Dunn stays at first, Milledge in left, Dukes in center and Kearns in right, until a better option is identified.

i can’t see them trading for Fielder. The Brewers would want the house for him.

So are you in favor of acquiring Dunn?

I admit he’s got more pop than anyone on the DC roster…I’m personally not a big fan of Mr. Dunn’s and I think the DC Faithful may revolt if Bowden signs one more former Reds’ player…and all those K’s…but I’m pretty sure he’s gonna end up in DC…If Johnson plays, Kearns to the bench? That’s funny…they’d have to ship him out before they’d put him on the pine…with DY in the Minors and Kearns on the bench, they’d be wasting $13 mill…who wants DC’s overpaid underachievers?

Kicking Milledge out of center too? I started the season with my Met-fan friends telling me that Milledge took the wrong first step each time, and end the year with Milledge playing the deepest center anyone’s ever seen…one year after DC’s thrilled to have acquired their new center fielder…now…Don’t forget, Bowden says the outfield might change…

I’d love to have Fielder, but not for what they’d have to give up…

Shhhhh, don’t mention Rule 5 picks until after we steal another Jesus Flores from the Mets…

Dude.. WTF?

If Milledge can’t play CF, he doesn’t hit enough to play a corner. At least he didn’t this season. Good lord, what’s happen to our Nation?

Milledge is only 23

his batting eye and power both went up dramtically toward the end of the season. this isn’t a guy that is 27-28 and not hitting 25 homers. he’s still learning how to play in the bigs. the best lineup the Nats could put on the field would be Dunn-Milledge-Dukes in the OF and Johnson at first, but i don’t think anyone is counting on Johnson. regardless, if Milledge is at a corner and Dukes isin center, you’re going to get enough power combined from the tow spots.

they have to sign Dunn first though, and that’s not a given. he’s been on record saying he doesn’t want to play on a rebuilding team. i guess the offers he sees starting week will shape his decision.

but envision this:

CF Milledge
SS Guzman
3B Zimmerman
LF Dunn
RF Dukes
1B Johnson
C Flores
2B Hernandez/Bonifacio/Gonzalez

Dunn would make this a tremendously different batting order. and yes, look at Milledge’s OBP throughout his minor league career and second half of this season. he’s best suited up top.
