Florida Marlins at Washington Nationals: Game Report..."The First Pitch From Mike O'Connor..."

 

The first pitch of the game from Washington lefty Mike O'Connor is an inside fastball to Florida Marlins' center fielder Cody Ross that doesn't make it in and is deposited fifteen rows back in left field for a leadoff homer and 1-0 Marlins' lead. O'Connor issues a one-out walk and a gives up a single, but gets through the first without further damage. Cristian Guzman singles and steals second with one out in the Nationals' first. Florida lefty Andrew Miller gets Zimmerman swinging. The Discerning Eye of Nick Johnson works a two-out walk. Lastings Milledge lines...into Hanley Ramirez's $70 million dollar glove to end the first. 

 

O'Connor retires the Marlins in order in the second. Austin Kearns flies out Jeremy Hermida in right. Elijah Dukes fouls one into catcher Matt Treanor's glove for the second out of the inning. Jesus Flores flies out to right. 1-0 after two. 

 

O'Connor gives up a leadoff walk to Cody Ross, and a one-out single to Hanley Ramirez, bringing up Jorge Cantu in the top of the third. O'Connor goes to a full count and eventually walks Cantu to load the bases, and a wild pitch with Dan Uggla at bat allows Ross to score from third. 2-0 Marlins. Uggla flies out to the track in center. Ramirez tags and scores. O'Connor gets a groundout from Luis Gonzalez. 3-0 Florida after three. 

 

Wes Helms leads off the fourth with a long ball to left. 4-0 Marlins. Matt Treanor rips a hustle double to center. Andrew Miller's sac bunt moves Treanor to third. Cody Ross walks for the second time. O'Connor saws off Hermida, but the ball gets through the infield anyway, and Treanor scores. 5-0 Florida. O'Connor walks Hanley Ramirez and throws two balls to Jorge Cantu before Manny Acta pulls the plug. (O'Connor's line - 3.1 IP, 6 hits, 9 runs, 6 walks, 1 K, 13.00 ERA). "Wild" Joel Hanrahan comes on and throws a wild pitch to allow another run in. 6-0 Marlins. Hanrahan finishes O'Connor's walk. Dan Uggla takes Hanrahan deeeeeep to left, Elijah Dukes jumps at the wall, but comes up empty...10-0 Marlins lead. Andrew Miller retires the Nationals in order in the fourth...

 

Joel Hanrahan pitches a 1-2-3 fifth. Kearns, Dukes and Flores go down in order to Andrew Miller, who's tossing a one-hit shutout through five. Joel Hanrahan pitches a scoreless sixth. Ronnie Belliard starts the bottom of the sixth at the plate. Andrew Miller gets Belliard staring. Felipe Lopez drops a single in center for the second Nationals' hit. Guzman lines out to center, Miller gets Zimmerman swinging. 10-0 after six. 

 

Matt Chico takes over on the mound for the Nationals in the seventh. Chico gets a groundout from Dan Uggla, but gives up a double to Luis Gonzalez. Chico gets Wes Helms swinging, and battles with Matt Treanor, eventually getting a fly ball out to end the top of the inning. Wily Mo Pena gets a pinch hit appearance against Andrew Miller with two down in the home half, and goes down looking at a high called strike to end the inning. 

 

Chico's back for the eighth, and a walk and a wild pitch puts Robert Andino on second. Cody Ross backs Elijah Dukes to the warning track in right, where Dukes catches the first out. Jeremy Hermida singles in Andino. 11-0 Fish...

 

The Talllest Pitcher in MLB History gets 2 K's and a groundout to end the top of the ninth. The Nationals have three outs to get 11 runs....Matt Lindstrom on for the Marlins. Willie Harris reaches safely when Lindstrom drops the ball while covering first. Aaron Boone sends Brett Carroll to the wall, where he makes a catch while crashing. Lastings Milledge grounds into a game-ending DP. 11-0 Marlins. 

 

Nationals now 15-22.
