Washington Nationals vs Seattle Mariners: Game Report..."The Battle Of Washington-Based Last-Place Teams."

Seattle starter R.A. Dickey is a practictioner of the dark art of the Knuckle Ball, and he uses it to get groundball outs from Cristian Guzman and Elijah Dukes, but Dickey can’t fool Lastings Milledge, who hits a two-out single through second. Milledge steals second on a knuckler in the dirt with DY at bat, and Milledge scores one pitch later when DY lines another knuckler to left for an RBI single. 1-0 DC...Ichiro Suzuki smacks a 3-2 pitch to right center for a leadoff double in the Mariners’ first. Hill walks Jose Lopez to bring up former Expo Jose Vidro. Vidro grounds out to second, advancing both runners. Raul Ibanez grounds out to first, but Ichiro scores and the game’s tied at 1-1.

As my wife says....

“They can never score too many runs.” What a squeaker! I’m glad they finally pulled one out.

Wow, Hill was really struggling

Just took another look at the box—110 pitches, 12 hits in 5 IP, but 3 Ks. And a third of his outs were fly balls… ouch. At least Rivera did well, two scoreless, all his outs on the ground (Rivera and Lannan being the “other” sinkerballers to one degree or another). Nice to see Hill finally get a W, though, even if it had to come on such an ugly outing (true Nats form, I guess). Kudos to him for struggling through it. And since when does Rauch throw 94? I always thought he was a 90-91 kind of guy.

RAUCH! dialed it up at the end there...

I can’t believe Hill was stretched to 110. Saul had his slider bitin’. Hill had to sweat out this win though, and I was right along with him waiting for the tying run which never materialized.

Glad I get another look at Clippard after circumstances prevented it last time around. Rauch came up HUGE! as always…and he didn’t pitch too bad either.

Everything I say is a "little" sarcastic...
