Rauch Traded
Just caught the tail end of this on ESPN. Rauch was traded to the Diamondbacks. In return we get 2B Emilio Bonifacio. What does everyone think? Did we do okay? Did we get robbed? I for one don't know enough about the kid. He was a PCL all star in AAA ball, but that is about all I can find so far. Also he is listed as the D-Backs 6th best prospect in Baseball America. Furthermore, with Rauch gone who will close? Also who will be on the chopping block next Lopez maybe?

That's exactly what I was thinking...The Felipe Lopez Era has come to an end...
More from Baseball America…
Bonifacio also considered the Fastest Baserunner and the best defensive infielder in the D-Backs organization according to Will Lingo’s review of the Arizona’ Top Ten Prospects.

Ignorance IS bliss
Ya, he may have hit .171 in the majors – IN 35 AT-BATS. So basically, you’re judging this trade because of what he’s done in 35 at-bats? That’s just idiotic.

Idiotic?
My logic is not idiotic, it is common sense. You don’t trade away your proven best pitcher, for an unproven player at the major league level when you are trying to get better. Don’t feed me the he’s young BS that Bowden loves to say. After digging even further, and being further disapointed at Jimmy B by already naming this guy the every day 2nd baseman next year when they already have Belliard in the event Lopez is gone.
That is not how you build chemistry with the vets on the team. Announcing with 60 games left, who is going to be at a position next season. That is why this team will continue to fall. The front office doesn’t have a clue.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Acta heads north back to the Mets at the end of the year.

You're logic makes no sense
You’re basing this trade on what he’s done at the major league level when he hasn’t even gotten a chance. Of course he’s not gonna get a chance when his road is being blocked by Orlando Hudson.
And teams always trade their best players for unproven talent because of the chance that the players they acquire can become more successful than the players they give away.

Here is what I am getting at....
Last year, the nationals were atleast fun to watch. This year, is disorganized chaos. If you like a guy that bats .171, fine by me, he might be 2nd on the team in average anyways. The philosophy is, and can agree with that often times you must take 1 step back to go 2 steps forward. Lately, the nationals seem to be taking 2 steps back to go one step forward, and then that doesnt work, and they do it again. This trade is just another example.
Its great that our farm system is supposidly “phenomenal”, with guys like benefaco as Bowden often talks about. The problem is, when these guys are given their chance at the major league level, they are horrific. Look at all of the pitchers they have called up this season, not one has had 2 consecutive quality outings. In terms of fielders that they have called up, anyone blow you away? Nope.

You still don't get my point
You can’t base this trade off of what Bonifacio has done at the major league level. He’s only had 35 at-bats in 2 short call-ups with the D-backs. It’s an extremely small sample size to base a player off of, much less a whole trade.

I think you guys are inadvertently recreating the Nationals' Management meetings heading into this deal...
I’d almost guarantee these two opinions were voiced for and against this deal…
I think I expected a bit more in return for Rauch…Though I was hoping for a Major-league ready reliever with closer potential…I don’t think you can judge Bonifacio on 35 at bats, but everything I’ve read out of AZ was negative, mostly “this kid can’t hit” sort of stuff…
On the other hand Mike Rizzo (whispers: Whose opinion I value over JB’s) is still real high on this kid, after several years following him when Rizzo was with the D-Backs, and still to this day…so if the guy who “found” Stephen Drew, Conor Jackson…etc. like Bonifacio, i’ll wait and give him a chance…
My only real problem with the deal is that all DC got for their most tradeable commodity was a relatively-light-hitting defensive infielder…
Minus the animosity, you guys are having a great exchange, thanks.

Right
There needed to be more to this deal. That is my point thecoolest, this player alone is by far no where near in comparison to Rauch for a 1-1 trade. Ok, so you can’t go completely on his limited at bats in the majors, but you certainly can’t just go on his triple A average. A+B still do not equal the hype he has been getting.
We will see, I hope it works out. I just don’t know if I can keep putting up with being 30 games under .500. If they want to fill the ballpark, they are going to need some sort of quality acquisition. Does it worry anyone that the President’s race gets a louder crowd reaction than the team?

...and remember, the jump to a $100 million dollar payroll has been promised...soon?
Then maybe DC can make a free agent splash…

Yeah, sorry about the attitude
I tend to get somewhat bitter when I’m frustrated. In the end, I get where your coming from, I just don’t fully agree with what you’re saying.

have to give credit when due
Now, dont get me wrong, ask me in the long run what I think of Bonafacio, but for the time being, he is proving to be a very good. Hopefully for his sake, he keeps it up.

I don't think anyone though Bonifacio (and Gonzalez) would be this good...Except maybe Mike Rizzo...

With Guz signed, it makes the middle a bit more solid...
...since right now all we have at 2B are Ronnie and Willie Harris—not bad, but not long-term options. Good thing the team has been hitting, because games are going to get mighty interesting with “Wild” Joel or Ayayayala closing…
When in doubt, blame PLoD

let me say one thing here:
it matters not who is closing this year, unless they think Hanrahan has the make up for the job permanently and want to try him out. closers fall off trees (see: Rauch, Jon) and someone will do the job regardless of the situation.
LOVE this deal!

Terrible
This is a terrible deal.
Here is Bowden’s next move…......
Ryan Zimmerman to the Braves for a foam tomahawk
Cristian Guzman to the Orioles for the Sling Shot back pack that the oriole bird uses
Jesus Flores to the Cubs for some of that cool Ivory on the wall

If we get the Sling Shot back pack, will we get more T-shirts in the upper deck during the T-shirt toss?
Flores and Zimmerman are “building blocks,” so I think they’re strictly off-limits, trade-wise. But the Guzman-for-T-shirts deal? I can see that.

Asking too much
Hold on there, the deal was Guzman for the sling shot back pack…......if you want t-shirts to go with that, you’ll have to throw in atleast Dmitri Young, and a player to be named later…
