Need some help.

Hi Nats fans.  On opening day when ESPN was showing off the different aspects of the stadium they showed a quote on a wall that I had never heard before.  The quote was basically about wanting to hustle on every play because a kid may be watching and not wanting to set a bad example.  I can't remember who said it and I can't remember the exact verbage of the quote.  Can anyone help?  Being a Rays fan and with Upton getting benched a couple times the past few weeks for not hustling made me think of it and now it's killing me.  Thanks in advance.

it was by Cal Ripken

and it was part of his HOF induction speech. it’s prominently displayed on a big wall outside the kids Strike Zone play area in centerfield.

Your voice of doom and gloom.

Thanks, Dave.

I was searching my photo archive from the stadium and couldn’t find the quote…

Everything I say is a "little" sarcastic.

Thanks so far...

I believe the quote was on a wall between the dugout and the clubhouse. I may just go check and see what broadcast MLB.tv has for that night and try to find it. I would call Elijah Dukes and ask him, but everyone in Tampa Bay knows he can’t read.

Believe this is what you're looking for SDubbs...

Cal Ripken’s HOF Speech…(the quote is on the last paragraph, second page…

“When I realized that I could use baseball to help make life better especially for the kids, baseball became a platform. By trying to set a good example, I could help influence young people in positive and productive ways. And some of this became apparent to me in my earliest playing days. So as my major league career unfolded, I started playing a little more attention to my actions. I remember when Kenny Singleton showed me a tape of me throwing my helmet down after a strikeout and all he said was, "How does that look?” I remember learning about a family who saved their money to come to Baltimore to see me play. I got thrown out in the first inning and their little boy cried the whole game. I remember how I reacted with anger when dad was fired after an oh and six start, and after each of those events and others, I vowed to act better the next time."

Everything I say is a "little" sarcastic.

Here's another similarly-themed quote, this one from Joe D.

“There is always some kid who may be seeing me for the first or last time, I owe him my best.”

Reference Upton...

I was skimming the games on MLB Extra Innings on DTV and I tuned in to the Rays / Angels game (Aug 19th) and Upton absolutely blistered one to the wall. He started trotting down the 1st baseline because he thought it was out. As he noticed it wasn’t out, he continued on to 2nd base at the same “trotting” speed. If I’m not mistaken, the 1st baseman (TEXIERA) ran up behind him and tagged him out.

I couldn’t believe I saw this guy just loaf and not even pay attention to where the baseball was.
