Around SBN: The Gift Of The 2003 Tigers

Finally realizing that they'd signed more players than they had room for on their roster, the New York Yankees** are now determined to trade two redundant position players, Xavier Nady and Nick Swisher, and according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson's latest article entitled, "Nationals interested in Nady, Swisher", the Nationals might be a possible destination, as Mr. Ladson writes that, "The two clubs are currently in trade discussions, according to a source."

What is DC going to have to give up for these two? Or one of the two? Please don't give away prospects for these two...Please?

(ed. note - " ** = I was hoping that maybe DC would come to the same realization?")

I've been a Nady fan since he was in San Diego

First of all, how can anyone not like that first name? “Xavier!”

HOWEVA if I were the “X” man and I found out I was going to D.C. (no disrespect intended here) I’d be a little pissed. After departing the Padres he went to the METS. He was actually pretty enamored w/the METS and was upset that they let him go…To the Pirates. Then the guy gets the chance to go back to New York, this time w/the Yankees and he’s well received there. Now, there’s talk of going back to another small to medium market team? Don’t know how he’s gonna like that.

After taking a look at his “basic” stats his numbers aren’t bad and he’s improved modestly. Basically, he’s a solid player both on offense and defense. Also he has experience at both the OF and 1B. That helps w/the NATS unknown at first and helps them to platoon in RF if need be. He’s even had some appearances at 3B.

Would I like to see him w/the NATS? Sure would! Would he like to be seen w/the NATS? Hmmm…

I'd bet both Nady and Swisher are currently...

…screaming at their agents for not getting a no-trade cause worked into their latest contracts…

Someone should retire that adage...

…though it was surely true last year…
