Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

AK, TAWH due for offensive explosions in 09?

Don't click through unless you're a stat-geek. It's a longish article about finding a better way to predict a hitters batting average on balls in play (BABIP), which is a way of measuring "luck" with where balls get hit.

The meat for Nats fans: Austin Kearns and Willie Harris were two of the twenty unluckiest batters in MLB in 2008 (and this in spite of TAWH's relative offensive explosion). If they regress to the mean (that is, if they have average luck), they'd get around 40 more points of batting average! Look for OF spots 4 and 5 to crush it in 09.
