MLB.com's Bill Ladson is quoting an anonymous "baseball source" in a new article entitled, "Nats unlikely to sign top free agents", in which Mr. Ladson reports:

"It appears the Nationals will not sign any major free agents this offseason. According to a baseball source, they will concentrate on their Minor League system and try to make trades for young players."

The "baseball source" tells Mr. Ladson that the secondary targets after Washington failed to woo Mark Teixeira to the nation's capital, Adam Dunn and Orlando Hudson, "...overpriced themselves out of Washington."

Whether this is a last minute negotiating tactic or a sincere admission of withdrawal from the market we'll have to wait and see...

i tried to warn everyone...

but Tex was the only player they were opening the purse strings for this year.

the Lerners are trying to use the Capitals method to rebuild the Nats, only they have the worst executive in the league in charge.

I didn't even think they'd make a public offer to Teixeira...

…that’s how cynical the Montreal years made me…

Where is the Nationals’ Ovechkin? I’d settle for a Semin or Mike Green.(What? No one watches hockey?")

I guess it’s time to see how well the PLAN is working…Will the young pitchers they’ve developed come through? Are the young players they’ve traded for the right ones? Can Ryan Zimmerman quiet any doubters? Will the Nationals sit DY and AK and pay them a combined $13M to ride the pine? How long before Belliard’s starting at second?…

- At least the Nick Johnson Fan Club lives for another year…

that's my point

Crow might have been their Ovechkin. Strasburg might be their Ovechkin. Maybe Zim is Green. Maybe Dukes is Semin. we’re gonna have to continue to wait. because they just aren’t putting any real money into the major league product. Free Agents (other than Mark Teixeira) are not part of the equation.

George McPhee is better at his job than Jim Bowden.

They HAD BETTER sign STRASBURG!!!!

No excuses now. They had $170-$180M to offer Teixeira, so don’t tell me a $10M signing bonus is out of the realm of possibility now…and damn it, draft Crow again with the second pick and MAKE THIS RIGHT!!!

Yes, draft Crow again, that'll show him...

…we’re back to my “the 2008 Nats weren’t so bad if they weren’t all broken at the same time” lineup. Did you hear that the Mets signed Redding? B******s! Can’t wait to see SooperDooks light his ass up.

I don't want to hear a word from Don Sutton...

…about how good Redding is if he’s wearing Mets-orange and blue…

(alright, I said the “draft Crow again” thing in anger.)

I'll take your word for it...

…the Caps and their goaltending, the only thing worse is the Philly goaltending…

- Sorry, Penguins fan since ’84.Bring back Mike Liut…

EGAD!!!!!

Just woke up and saw it. Why o why do I think he will NOT reject the offer? I don’t know what’s going on in the Mets front office. I just haven’t the slightest.
