Washington Nationals' Stephen Strasburg vs '09 No. 2 Overall Pick Dustin Ackley.
• Maybe the Phoenix Desert Dogs could have saved a few runs for Stephen Strasburg? The Desert Dogs pounded the Peo Javelinas, Peoria, Arizona's second-favorite Arizona Fall League team 17-4 Wednesday afternoon. Chris Marrero was the only Nationals' prospect in the lineup, and he went 0 for 2 with 3 walks and 1 run scored, lowering his AVG a bit to .389 (7 for 18) after 5 AFL games. DC pitching prospect Jeff Mandel threw his third scoreless frame for Phoenix. The 24-year-old right-hander's allowed just 1 hit in 3.0 IP, and Wednesday it took just four pitches to get the first two outs of the eighth, and five more to record the final out of the frame when White Sox' infield prospect C.J. Retherford flew out to right field.
• Strasburg vs Ackley: 1 vs 2...Dustin Ackley, 21, the Seattle Mariners' 1st Round pick, taken second overall behind Stephen Strasburg in this past June's draft, is a 6'1'' left-handed-hitting OF who hit over .400 in all three seasons he played for the North Carolina Tarheels, ending his college career by hitting 18 doubles, 4 triples and 22 HR's, while collecting 73 RBI's, 13 SB and 50 walks, and striking out just 34 times in 266 at bats, over which he posted a .517 OBP, a .763 SLG and a 1.280 OPS...

He missed with that curve....
Just so you know, you’re not alone staring at Gameday. His location’s been good, but that curve was almost right down the middle. Had a nice break, but it was high.

Kinda glad
Stras still has a lot to learn despite huge talent. The occasional knock here and in ST will do him some good and keep the ego down.

Roscoe's not worried.
Aren’t they only letting him throw 2 of his pitches?

Vermont will have a great rotation for the next few years with McGeary, Smoker, and Strasburg....

Wow...that's some bad numbers.
ERA =10.50
Hope he gets rid of most of his yips in Arizona as he faces much better talent than he faced in college.

For me
It’s the argument of giving him half a season or longer in the minors before a September call up. I’d rather he learnt something down there rather than have MLB hitters light him up. More so that we need to start winning more games next season. I dont care if he gets torched up a bit in A ball…i’d probably hate it more if its against the Mets.

It'd be a lot easier to let him learn in Zimmermann was healthy...one less starter might be the difference in where his career begins...

True
I still think at best he would be our #5 guy anyway in terms of limits on innings. In any event, they could easily sign Livan to #5 spot and have a decent top end free agent.
