Ryan Zimmerman Fielding Bible Awardee 2009
Did you guys see the latest accolade given to Ryan Zimmerman on account of his 2009 season in the field? Bill James 2009 Fielding Bible award for all of MLB--makes me think his chances are even greater of winning the NL Gold Glove. The other winners--Pujols, Aaron Hill, Jack Wilson, Carl Crawford, Franklin Guitierez, Ichiro, Yadier Molina and Mark Buerhle. Congratulations to Ryan.
I will be shocked now if he doesn't get the NL Gold Glove!
(ed. note - "In case you didn't see this in the comments section, VA Slim also points out that Ryan Zimmerman is up for the This Year in Baseball Fielding Awards writing:
"...perhaps a fielding bible and being the best ‘this year in baseball’ in fielding(or up in the top 3) would make him a lock? It’s an accomplishment just to be in the final 10 or so that mlb nominated."
The 2009 Web Gem Award, the 2009 Fielding Bible Award, the TYIB Fielding Award...Next Stop Gold Glove, c'mon DC Faithful, let's get another VOTE FOR ZIM rally going!!! We all know how skilled he is in the gloved arts, let's make sure all of baseball recognizes...Thanks, for the heads up, VA.")

Those managers and coaches have to see the web gems, even if they can't read the Fielding Bible...

a fielders bible award
is infinetley more important than a gold glove…seems to me like he’s already won the relevant one.

Pedro Feliz, Casey Blake? I think Zim should win...those are two players who might steal it...and no I didn't check the comparisons...those two are just off the top o' me head...
These two teams made the playoffs…will that be the difference, the Nationals are a joke around the majors with a fantastic 3rd Baseman…but will the rest of baseball recognize…let’s hope the managers and coaches were paying attention while he robbed them game after game…

Blake - .973 Fld%, 10 Errors...
Feliz – .966 Fld%, 15 E’s…
Zimmerman – .962 Fld% – 17 E’s…
Zim was 6th in league in FLd%, 4th overall in E’s…
Sorry, just trying to prepare myself for another letdown in a season full of them…
Vote Zim!

Zim: 14.1 UZR/150, Feliz: 3.1 UZR/150, Blake: 7.0 UZR/150
I realize fielding’s not the relevant stat, so here:
Zim: 292/364/525, 33 HR, 110 RBI
Feliz: 266/308/386, 12 HR, 82 RBI
Blake: 280/363/468, 18 HR, 87 RBI
Zim dominates in every category except “being on a contender.”
Zim is worth 7.1 WAR. Blake is respectable at 4.3, but hardly the same level. Feliz is a pathetic joke at 1.2 (that’s 1 win more than Pete Orr, I guess).

Wow, Zim was 4th in WAR in the NL this season!
Prince Fielder was 5th… Pujols was 1st, of course.

What do you think the managers and coaches look at? Do teams put together stat packages?
I guess I’m just used to teams not recognizing Nationals…Are the majority of coaches and managers in the majors checking UZR/150 ratings?
To be clear, I’m an advocate for Zim winning the GG…just wondering how they’ll decide this…Since I don’t have my 2010 copy of Bill James’ book yet…how did he arrive at giving Zim the Fielder’s Bible Award?

I suppose you have to look at the baseball men voting.......
Do they look at or even understand these fancy new stats (does the ballot even list them…)? Or, do they just go with their old school guts? Do they put in any time on this or just pick some names that they recognize on some more annoying paperwork so they can get on with drinking beer and fishing……..
Does say, Corrales and McCatty choose differently than LaRussa?

My point is that Zim dominates everything but FP (even offensive stats)...
…including Web Gems. He’s a “gamer,” a “quiet professional,” a “clubhouse leader”… fer frankssakes, people! If you’re not voting for Zim, what the heck ARE you looking at? Even the “old baseball man” looks at his gut and thinks, “I can have anyone in the NL at the hot corner, who will it be?” The gut gurgles around the chilidogs and burps up ZZZZIIIMMM! (And if you’re only looking at FP, then you fail at baseball.) The fact that David Wright has a Golden Glove already means that the award’s not about defensive excellence—if Zimmy doesn’t win it, then it’s not about any sort of excellence at all.

another chance to boost Zim's "street cred"
Check out MLB.com’s ‘this year in baseball’ awards, Zim is up for Fielding. I’m a little ticked that his video only shows two highlights when all other players had 3-4 on their highlight reel mlb provided. I think voting is unlimited too.
perhaps a fielding bible and being the best ‘this year in baseball’ in fielding(or up in the top 3) would make him a lock? It’s an accomplishment just to be in the final 10 or so that mlb nominated.
