You know…for all the things said about Sori leaving…that was sooooo the right move. If only we could have traded something for the 40-40 season he had. I wonder what was offered that year…

She was carrying a skull and had a laminated plastic badge with her picture and the name of the character (I don’t watch the show, myselft, although I saw the first two seasons of Angel if that counts…). She said she thought of the costume because she already had the skull…

lol - Im looking through baseball superstition and it reminded me of this gem
Only hard-core fans, and devotees of Japanese baseball, are aware of the Curse of Colonel Sanders. The victims are the Hanshin Tigers, who are the Japanese equivalent of the Cubs and Red Sox — one title in 68 years. That came in 1985, and in celebration, fans resembling Tigers stars leaped into Osaka’s toxic Dotonbori River in celebration. However, no one could be found who resembled the Tigers’ burly American star Randy Bass, so resourceful fans went to a nearby Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet, stole a statue of Colonel Sanders, and tossed it in the river.
In subsequent years, the Tigers plummeted back to the basement, and according to legend will not win another championship until the Colonel is found. Numerous efforts to recover the statue have been undertaken, to no avail.

This is one I always followed...
Countless players observe the time-honored superstition of not stepping on the foul line (except for the ones who observe the time-honored counter-superstition of stepping ON the foul line).
Mel Stottlemyre, the Yankees’ longtime ace and current pitching coach, told how he came to believe in the power of foul-line avoidance. He said that a Yankees coach, Jim Hegan, told him one day before a game with the Twins that it was a silly belief, and that stepping on the foul line would have no effect on his performance.
Stottlemyre thought he might have a point, and cavalierly stepped on the foul line as he went out to face the Twins. Here’s his account of that day’s game in “The Baseball Almanac”:
“The first batter I faced was Ted Uhlaender, and he hit a line drive off my left shin. It went for a hit. Carew, Oliva and Killebrew followed with extra-base hits. The fifth man hit a single and scored and I was charged with five runs. I haven’t stepped on a foul line since.”

NM much better for star-gazing.
you can truly see the Milky Way there. And there’s a place in southern NM called Sunspot which has the one of world’s largest solar observatory to study the sun because there’s no light pollution. Bunch of REAL pointy heads there going around saying things like: “Does supergranulation times ten exist?” or “Where are the missing neutrinos?”

Yeah, I know about the neutrinos...seems like they'd be
looking for deep caves. But I did run into a couple of guys who were really pondering their missing-ness.
Mostly it was an unusual place, made more so by the fact that I’d just come from doing a segment with a guy who predicted the weather as well as volcano eruptions and earthquakes by reading jars of rendered bear grease in his kitchen window! His accuracy was much better than the national weather service.

The only thing that would make this game exciting would be if
Matsui hits for the cycle.
Otherwise, I want both teams to lose.

(Another fun thing to do in Pittsburgh, by the way--the Warhol musuem.)
They also have a museum of installation art, the Mattress Factory, I think, that was really good. Nats-Pirates is on a weekend again next season! This time I’m going to try the pierogies.

left-hander Doug Slaten have been claimed off waivers.
Slaten, who turns 30 in February, was claimed by the Nationals. He allowed five earned runs and 11 total baserunners in 6 1/3 innings with the Diamondbacks in ‘09, but posted a 3.09 ERA and a 40/15 K/BB ratio in 43 2/3 innings at Triple-A Reno. He hasn’t been the same since undergoing knee surgery at the end of 2007.
