Shawn Hill? Injured? Please, No?
Washington Post writer Chico Harlan reports that Shawn Hill never made it to the mound today, heading instead to see Dr. James Andrews after feeling "forearm discomfort". What can you say...? Sorry, Hill?

At some point you have to call it I guess...

Seems like a great kid, but that's it. Take your arbitration winnings and get off the 40 man roster.

Forgive me if I sound rude but...
Has baseball always had so many players get injured so often? I’m not talking about any particular person and / or team but lord, people are dropping like flies. Are these injuries serious or has the entire lot of MLB players turned into a bunch of pus..es?

Remember when...
Pitchers used to throw complete games most of the time? I think the threshold for pain has gone down since guaranteed contracts became the norm. I also believe that with so much money on the line, players of marginal talent push themselves even harder than the really talented ones and increase the risk of injury.
Oh how I wish I were an average left handed relief pitcher.

They only had 4 man rotations then too, and the starters would occasionally come in as relievers on their off days.
The way they threw...that sort of underhand sidearm weirdness, it's amazing to me they threw as much as they did...
…as for coming in as relievers, that’s gotta be the most famous Walter Johnson story I’ve read, (I talk like I know about DC baseball history now…)
After losing Game Five of the 1924 Series, he comes on in a relief in the 9th of a tied Game Seven and pitched 4 innings until they won it in the 12th!
A question from that game, though…

Anyone know why the Washington starter, Curly Ogden, left after recording just one out? I don’t know, I’m asking…haven’t found answer yet.

Google "George Mogridge replaces Curly Ogden"
The first link is way to long, but describes the sneaky strategy of Bucky Harris vs. John McGraw in game 7 of the “greatest World Series game” ever played…….
