Fed Baseball's acronyms, 'nyms, and nics'...

Hey, we need a list. A glossary of the more obscure and less obvious for the casual reader and a repository of the clever references contributed by the DC Faithful, so they will not be lost in the avalanche of the thread commentaries..... [Inspired by the Ryan "Don't call me Mendoza" Zimmerman entry, a derivative of the soon to be universally accepted DCMR and the hysterical DCCT.......]

Ah, forgot about that list....... Yours, of course, lead the way.........

I googled TYB ‘cause I didn’t know it, and assumed it meant, “That’s Your Boyfriend”, a reference to Kearns K’ing while the Donkey walks…….. hence the need for some few definitions occasionally…

We could totally usurp Flight of the Conchords and call him ...

“Business Time”
You know when I have my socks on it’s “Business Time”

Come to think of it that’s probably more suitable for DUKES. He of the many children with difference ladies.

by Berndaddy on Apr 23, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No wait a minute it could be a nickname for J."Business Time"Tavares

and when he holds an inning he’s “done his business”

by Berndaddy on Apr 23, 2009 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think you have this backwards... player first, then nickname......

“done his business” is somethng that comes to mind after letting the cat out and he wants to come back inside,…

That was LOUtheMetFan...

…an instant classic, which can brilliantly be used as a positive or a negative to describe the pitching exploits of Nats situational lefty Mike Hinckley: “Howard looked a fool chasing that bender—he got WoodHincked!” “Aw, man—I can’t believe he gave up a dinger to Howard! We’ve been WoodHincked!”

Loosely based on getting “MOCK’d!” to describe some of Garret Mock’s lights-out relief appearances last season.

Correction: LOUtheMETSfan

We shouldn’t only strive for brilliantly funny commentary, but accurate commentary as well. That’s what orderly neighbors in NatsTown do for each other. ;-)

DCCT = "Dunn Couldn't Catch That"

For those who weren’t watching that particular comment thread.
It’s a dig at Adam Dunn’s fielding skills, which are… not as good as his hitting, let’s say. Typically in reference to Nick Johnson making a great play at first on a bad throw or a sharply-hit ball. Could refer to plays in left field, such as a heroic diving catch from TAWH, or a routine fly out to Josh Willingham (since Adam “He plays it on a hop” Dunn could be… a tad more aggressive charging some balls).

A tad...

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"

I liked Burn-adina yesterday

But my favorite is TAWH simply because it fits so well!

Zinn for Jordan is also good, but might be confusing to the casual fan.

I propose for Steve Shell! Getting Shellacked!, The SS, the obvious “getting shelled”, Which can be changed to bringing in “the artillery” or the “big gun”, or maybe take it the other way and call him “Conch” as in conch shell.

That would be full circle...

Big Donkey - Original Nickname
Big Dunn-KBecause, you know, he, like, K’s a lot…
Bigger WilkersonBecause I argued against signing him saying he was just a “Bigger Wilkerson”.
Big WilkyFor Short…
Big WalkyBecause, you know, he, like, walks a lot…
BIG DONKEY!!

Which do you think Dunn would prefer?

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

I've got a couple for consideration:

First off, the entire team should just be thought of as:

Major
Assets
Still
Hurt

And, I’d like to refer to Josh Willingham as Josh “Bat And” Willinghammer
Takers?

Yeah, I gotta admit. It doesn’t roll off of the tongue.
