Minor League Report
I pretty much lifted this minor league report on the discussion boards of the Washington Post. While I was going to consider this a Fanshot - I figured it might be better placed here for a discussion on who we'd like to see in the team before too long. How long before Stammen is called up? Or will Clippard be called up to fill the (gaping) hole in the bullpen?
Nice to see Ross D back to form.

Stoked...
I live in Richmond and it sucks this summer w/o a baseball team, but its official that we are getting a AA Eastern League team next year and I am thrilled (I think AA ball is a lot better than AAA).
The Connecticut Defenders are moving here and they are the Giants squad. But what I think may be awesome is that they only have one year left on their contract with the Giants and I think the Nats would be primed to take the AA Richmond franchise. Kasten has already expressed interest.
Does anyone know how many games there are in AA?
From Richmond to the District
Colome from AAA...
…coming soon to a Nats game near year. Stats from AAA this year:
10.1 IP, 8.1 K/9, 4.5 K/BB, 1.200 WHIP… but 3.6 HR/9…
Career in the bigs, he’s 6.9 K/9, 1.44 K/BB, 1.485 WHIP (but only 1.1 HR/9). Career ERA+ is 97, right around league average. He may not quite be the savior, but he’s some welcome padding in the duck pond, and he can eat some innings without too much embarrassment (he pitched in 61 games in 2007 and 2008, putting up 66.0 and 71.0 IP, respectively).
Stammen’s certainly having a good season, but his career AAA numbers are 5.4 K/9, 1.85 K/BB, 1.475 WHIP, 5.24 ERA in 16 games (80.2 IP). His numbers at AAA have improved every season, except for his K/9, which is down to 2.9 this year (from 7.3 in 2008). His BB/9 is down slightly, too, but you’d like to see a pitcher get an out an inning without relying on the defense. As DC continues his Voyage to Craptacular Craptasticness, Stammen might be worth a cup of coffee to give us someone new to yell at (and he may be able to trick people for a few games).
O’Connor, while not pitching quite as well as Stammen this season, has better career AAA stats and has been keeping up his K/9 this season. He’s also pitched a few games in the bigs, with admittedly mixed results. He’d probably be a better bet that Stammen at this point, but Stammen bears keeping an eye on, no doubt.

Frankly, I'm almost willing to try anyone other than DC.
AOTDC fan club starts today.

O'Connor and Colome have a tendancy to give up the gopher ball...
…they have high K/9, but unfortunately high HR/9, too….

So, the cry to bring up _____? and see what happens will have a familiar result...

Yeah, but at least its a different guy with the familiar result...
…and we can all sit around and say, “Man, remember when he was good?” (Assuming, of course, that he ever was, which I don’t think has been the case with more than a few of this year’s candidates.)

All Hail the Different Guy!!!
Wait, actually most of the different guys have been no better than the devils we knew…

But they spread the pain evenly...rather than letting one poor Hanrahan of an individual take it all.

I'm praying our starters go more than 5 innings...
Will be VERY ugly should the starters get beat up.

Now Manny is back to Hanrahan as closer and maybe an 8-man bullpen
Who will be the extra arm to take Cintron’s roster spot?
From Nats Journal:
“After this one, Manny Acta suggested the team might soon use an eight-man bullpen.
“We’re thinking about that right now, because the pace we’re going at right now, we’re probably going to need an extra guy over there,” he said.
Also, Joel Hanrahan is again the closer. Acta had said in previous days that Hanrahan would again be given chances in the ninth inning, but after this one, he called Hanrahan the closer with no equivocation. “We’re closing with Joel,” Acta said. “We’re going back to closing with Joel.”
