Any Takers for Kearns?

I was looking at the Giants trade idea post, and I didn't want to see Johnson go. I was thinking, could we somehow trade Kearns for someone on the Giants. His career has been fading since he was traded to the Nat's a fear years back. I was thinking, with the Giants need, maybe we could trade Kearns to the Giants without hitting our team hard and getting a quality pitcher. Trading Kearns would make Willingham to be a starter, a good fit until someone from the farm takes on the job. Here is my ideas of deals the Nationals could make to the Giants.

Austin Kearns for Nate Schierholtz

Austin Kearn for John Bowker

Austin Kearns for Jeremy Affeldt and/or Bobby Howry

Any other ideas of trades we could make involving Austin Kearns to the Giants?

I doubt we can move Kearns unless we take on an equally large contract in return (like the previously rumored Miguel Batista idea). Noah Lowry might have been a good fit if he was healthy, but he is not, and will not be. Makes no sense for the Giants to deal Affeldt away since they just signed him Howry might be a possibility, but he’s doing well for them, so I don’t think they would want to do that either (especially because they would still take on a ton of money).

I can't see any other team trading for Kearns

Kearns is making something like $7, 8 or 9 million this year, I believe. I think he’s the highest paid player on the team too. He doesn’t offer much to any other team besides good defense. His batting average is about what it was last year although his OBP is high. But teams don’t normally pay $7-9 million for a defensive OF who walks but doesn’t hit many HRs (or doubles or singles).

It would be great to get a decent relief pitcher for Kearns but it’s hard to see that happening.

I'll take whatever we could get for him.

I think we could get Howry for him. If we were tradeing with the Giants

"Kearns finds himself in an 8-for-50 slump....." Not in "rhythm"? Not wanted...

“When things are going badly, Kearns is vulnerable to inside pitches and breaking balls on the outside part of the plate.

“I have been out of rhythm,” Kearns said. "I’m trying to get back in rhythm.

“…teams have not called the Nationals about him, according to a baseball source.”

Willingham and Kearns are probably similarly valuable to a team.

But the hammer is much cheaper, and thus could be moved. I see him as the most move able piece of our puzzle.
