One Streak's Over, One Going Strong...

Ryan Zimmerman didn't waste any time extending his hit streak to 25-straight, singling to center off LA lefty Randy Wolf with two down in the top of the first, but Zimmerman was stranded when Adam Dunn K'd, and by the end of the first inning it was 6-0 Dodgers, and it was looking like the Washington Nationals were going to be extending a few other streaks...

Had they held on to their early 6-0 lead it would have been the Los Angeles Dodgers' record-extending 14th-straight win at home to start the 2009 season and it would also have been the Nationals' 11th-straight loss in Dodger Stadium dating back to 2005, but DC starter Jordan Zimmermann, who was charged with all six runs that LA scored in the first on two walks, two singles and a Matt Kemp grand slam, settled down on the mound and held LA off the board over the next 5.0 innings, allowing Washington to slowly but surely creep back into the game...

...One run in the sixth on a Josh Willingham home run, three runs in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Cristian Guzman and a two-out RBI double by Adam Dunn, and then Washington explodes for six runs in the eighth, collecting 3 doubles, 3 singles, two walks and 6 runs, forcing LA to use three pitchers just to get out of the inning. 10-6 DC after seven and a half, 10-7 after eight, 11-7 after the Nationals' ninth, 11-9 when it ends...

Nationals win, 11-9 final.

Jesus Flores sends Juan Pierre back to the track in left....Jordan Zimmermann issues a leadoff walk to Russell Martin, bringing up Matt Kemp. Kemp hasn’t seen Zimmermann’s two-strike slider yet, now he has, backwards K. Casey Blake singles to left, Martin safe at second. Xavier Paul makes his MLB debut, and gets robbed by Guzman, who backhands while sliding and tosses to second with a flip of the glove, Hernandez to Johnson at first, double play.

Ramon Troncoso vs Anderson Hernandez in the seventh. Hernandez shoots a single up the middle. Hernandez takes second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout by Willie Harris. Cristian Guzman brings Hernandez in with a groundout. 6-2 Dodgers. Nick Johnson lines a trademark single to left, and takes second on Ryan Zimmerman’s single. Joe Torre has seen enough from Troncoso, and he brings in Will Ohman to face Adam Dunn. Dunn drills a double to right, and two runs score, 6-4 Dodgers. Cory Wade on to pitch to Elijah Dukes. Dukes rolls the third out to second...Ron Villone sees his first action for the Nationals. Juan Pierre lines a single over third. Villone picks Juan Pierre off second. Adam Dunn catches the second out off of Rafael Furcal’s bat. Orlando Hudson lines to left, Willingham dives and bends his wrist back making a sweet diving play.

Josh Willingham battles for 10 pitches and then doubles over Juan Pierre’s head in left. Cory Wade walks Jesus Flores in front of Anderson Hernandez. Holy Mother of Crap !!!

I saw the first two innings, turn off the TV and figure crap 6-0 that’s the name of that tune. Go to sleep wake up to Mike and Mike in the morning and hear. 11-9 Nats. What? The Washington Nats? I’m listening more intently at this point and say out loud to my wife, who by the way could care less about baseball, you know the type " Yes, dear, that’s nice dear" , but I tell her," wow the Nats came back to win." She actually jumped up and said , “Really, that’s cool!!!”. Yes dear that is nice, SHWEETNESS INDEED my dear!!!

Go Nats !!!

Yusmeiro "Don't Call Me Andy" Petit!!! ........ from http://www.azcentral.com

Pitchers: Diamondbacks RHP Yusmeiro Petit (0-2, 7.84) vs. Nationals RHP Shairon Martis (3-0, 4.60 ERA).

“Petit was decent in his most recent start against the Brewers, giving up three runs in five innings. However, he allowed a pair of home runs, which is nothing new for him. He has allowed 37 home runs in 160 career innings, an average of 2.1 per nine innings. . . . In one career start against Washington, Petit got the win despite allowing five runs in six innings. . . . "

Coming up

Saturday: At Chase Field, 5:10 p.m. LHP Doug Davis (2-4, 3.52 ERA) vs. Nationals LHP John Lannan (1-3, 4.59).

Sunday: At Chase Field, 1:10 p.m. RHP Max Scherzer (0-3, 3.38) vs. Nationals LHP Scott Olsen (1-3, 6.54).

New coaches for the Snakes.... yep, anything could happen

So, Dunn said a fan called for the ball that dropped in….. Hmm, maybe time for a unique call among the OFers so they won’t be confused.
They could practice that, if they practiced…

Remember Milly cutting in front of Kearns early in the year? UGH

But, I think the CF takes that ball most of the time. Dunn’s not good at going to his right…well…or his left…,etc.

Just finished reading game thread from the:

UGLY / GREAT game for the Nats win in LaLa land.

Highlights of game thread (that put me in stitches):

  • Miss B’s jalepeno crackers
  • Doghouse’s food poisoning
  • Dukes & Dunn outfield rendition of the Bad News Bears
  • Roscoe’s mention of me sawing logs while the Nats make the comeback. (I was dreaming in CAPS LOCK the entire time Roscoe.)
  • CAPS LOCK is teh shizznit!
  • “E’s” staying power
  • Love for Dibble
  • Nats win it!

Uh-oh!

I’m beginning to feel like I’m not paying my dues as a dual citizen of NatsTown. I have a ping-pong engagement this evening at 7:30. (Yes, I managed to cull the words ping-pong and engagement into the same sentence. “E” would be impressed.)

I might be able to make some of the game when I get home. But I have to get some “zzz’s” because I have to get up early to go fishing. I’m going for the beer at sea…Not necessarily the fishing.

That’s over 3 decades ago. I had a pole with a floaty and a piece of bologna on the line. I actually caught a fish. Pop was proud.

May just take a 1/2 hour to beat him 3 out of 5. I was indoctrinated at sea on how to play ping pong. You try mastering this game at sea on a ship that is swaying to and fro, from side to side.

I couldn't sleep after the game last night...

…and there was an incredible show on PBS about the great American activist comedians from Lenny Bruce to George Carlin to Richard Pryor all the way back to the Smothers Brothers.

I had too much of a rush to go straight to sleep. Great game.

Of course, if he doesn’t sign till mid-August, he’ll be shur down till Spring Training.
