Fox rumour that Acta is going to be fired. Tracee H. reports, “Chico’s still reporting on Manny, but called to say that Acta, Rizzo and Kasten are sitting together, shooting the breeze before the game. Manny Acta told him, however, that as far as he knows, he’s still the manager.”

Chico also says Frank Robinson is at the game.

Right, our pitching is finally turning around--let's beat the heck out of it!

Granted, we probably wouldn’t be scrabbling to make 0.300, but I’d like to have some of those young pitchers last more than two seasons…

Maybe he needs a towel.

If he could spend the game leaning on a towel draped over the dugout railing, maybe it counteract the malign influence of TEH DEWLAP. I tell you, calmly sitting on the bench seems to be making Manny all crazy.

Kasten on Acta

“I think you all watched the game last night, and you watched us lose a game, and if you listed the reasons for why we lost the game, I don’t think the manager would be anywhere on your list of reasons. So it’s hard dealing with that. And yet, we have a record of 16-43, which is, to me, inexplicable. So that’s how I feel.”

true enough

but this team was so poorly constructed defensively. if you looked at all the mathmatical projections at the begining of the season, NONE of them had the Nats this bad. it’s been a combination of bad and bad luck.

it’s still Bowden’s fault, and will be for a while. there just aren’t enough sophisticated baseball fans in this market to realize it.

Nationals to fire Acta as manager By Jon Heyman, SI.com

Manny Acta is likely to be fired soon, perhaps as early as Monday, a National League source confirmed.

No, just the "NL source"....... but Ladson said, "However, two team sources said the report is premature..."

“According to one of the team sources, the Nationals have contemplated letting Acta go since late May but decided, first, to relieve Randy St. Claire of his duties as pitching coach on June 2.”

I don’t like how this is playing out. Sneaky corporate Kasten-like…

Geez. We suck.

My take on Acta is…these are major league players who haven’t quit on their manager. But their manager is obviously not doing the right things to get their heads in the game. These are mostly good hitters and they are not coming through in pressure situations.

If this were a real company and Manny was a sales manager…the best sales team closes 64% of their sales. The second worst sales team closes 42% of their sales. Manny’s sales team, the worst one, closes 27% of their sales. My goodness.

Monday’s an off day.
