The folks in charge here keep their fans informed. Very informed. As we’ve been waiting through the rain delay, video announcements about the decision-making have been appearing on the scoreboard at least several times every hour.

What are these "floods" to which you refer?

We’ve been in a drought for a couple years and only get 32" of rain normally. Central Texas weather does vary significantly, so there is no normal. Usually one brutally hot month (100F and the rest 90s), but it could be May, the Js or August… I like hurricanes in the Gulf as the rains push north to where we are. Rainy seasons are Fall and Spring, but not recently.

The 3.0 upgrade is free...

…there’s a whole kerfuffle about how people with the OG get to upgrade for cheap, but people with the 3G phone have to pay extra, unless they’ve had it for 18 months or something like that. They’re selling the previous model (3G) for $99 now, though. Anyhow, 3.0 is cool! It’s like I have a whole new phone.

From Nats Journal...

The Washington Nationals will introduce two new concession stands at Nationals Park during the upcoming homestand beginning on Friday, June 19 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. The team will debut a Carolina-style barbeque option at Teddy’s Barbeque, located adjacent to the Nats Family Fun Area on Friday evening. The Kosher Grill, operated by Max’s Kosher Cafe, will open on Sunday, June 21, on the Main Concourse behind Section 143.

Ugh.... My temporary entertainment waiting for.......

Err… hoping for the game to start. Cubs-White Sox. I got excited initially, noticing that Steve Stone was handling the play by play and was extremely happy that it was the Cubs’ feed….

It’s a joint feed :(

Ken “Hawk” Harrelson continues to bring new lows to the broadcasting medium. After Alexei Ramirez’s go-ahead homer in the top of the seventh, he did his typical annoying “You can put it on the board, yes!” garbage and immediately followed it with an even more homeristic “Hell yes!!!!!!!”

Toss that in with the “He gawn”s and…. well…. I just don’t know what else to say.

by bluelineswinger on Jun 18, 2009 4:05 PM EDT reply actions

My assumption is that Stone must be thinking

Gee…. Harry Caray actually was coherent all those years……..

Cubs put up four in the eighth

To tie the game. Soto knotted it with the second of back to back homers about 45 seconds ago. There’s nothing but silence from the broadcast booth. Did he step out of the booth to start crying?

Actually, I'd forgotten

Stone currently works for the White Sox. Thought I’d remembered him walking away from the Cubs a few years ago, and was surprised to hear him on a Chicago broadcast. Now I know why.

What a game!

I say, lets keep this lineup and not mess with things. These guys showed me one of the best defended games this year. The gloves were out tonight!!!

Probably because every guy was legit with the glove at his position and noone was trying to help out the weak spots in the field. I know Patterson can’t hit, Harris and Nieves have no power, and the Hammer is back soon, but come on defense is really fun to see,!!!!!

Not that I’m complaining, but he doesn’t have quite the range he did in 2005. It was awful nice having some great fielding behind Stammen tonight, though. The kid deserved some for a change!

Nats had 3 of top 5 web gems, with TAWH being #1.

Yankees...(worth a minute of your time for the chuckle)

I love the NY media.

“What else really needs to be said? When a team loses a series to one of the worst teams in baseball history, they don’t deserve a second thought.

I feel bad for the dozens of people who waited out the 5 1/2 hour rain delay this afternoon to sit through this nonsense."

Since they hammered the legendary Johan Santana....

"Stammen’s performance wrapped up a homestand where the Yankees struggled mightily against pitchers they have never seen. The Mets’ Fernando Nieve and Washington’s trio of Shairon Martis, John Lannan and Stammen held New York to a combined 1.64 ERA (27 1/3 innings, five earned runs).

Definitely nice to see a second straight Curly W

Hey… a third one, and we can actually have the pretext to find a website. (OK… that was lame). I know I’m about the most adamant Manny critic on here, and I’ll stand behind the fact that two wins (even in Yankee Stadium) aren’t going to change my mind with that stance. That said, I have to agree that it would seem that the team has at least temporarily saved his job with their performance in the past week.

I still can’t say enough about the sea change in the pitching since McCatty’s taken over. The defensive improvements have certainly played their part as well. Still, this series win was all about the gutsy efforts by the starters. Martis going back out there with 100 pitches already under the books in Game 1 (which they’d eventually lose) and throwing a clean sixth…. Lannan looking like an absolute stud in keeping one of the best (and richest) offensive lineups at bay for eight and a third…. Stammen revving it up and throwing as deep into a game as he’s thrown in the big leagues.

When the starters can go deep, it leaves the bullpen less time to be exposed (and possibly allows Manny to work the matchups a little better). Now, if only they can find that perfect storm where the offense is clicking like it did in the first two months and the pitchers continue to perform at this level…. well….. maybe they can look respectable the rest of the way.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask, is it?
