Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Mlbtraderumors projects Nick Johnson and Joe Beimel as Type-B free agents, with Ron Villone on the edge. That means if they refuse arbitration and leave the team at the end of the season, the Nats get a draft pick as compensation. Some former Nats on the B-list: Brian Schneider, Felipe Lopez (?) and Luis Ayala (?!). No one on the Nats projects as a Type-A so far this season (worth two picks).

His value will never be higher. Trade Nick Johnson!

No reason to keep him after the trade deadline...

3/5 of the rotation will be shut down in August or September. Maybe Chico and Mock will be up. Why keep anybody.

The next plan starts when Nick gets traded.

Sorry Ed. Trade Nick for all he is worth…and he’s probably worth a bit.

Are you kidding!

If he repeats this season then next year then he will be Type A. I say sign him for one more season!

If we can...

If he wants to play in his later years for team that loses 100 games… then sure, sign him. But I suspect he’ll hold out for FA and a team with a chance to win. He has mentioned it before that he wants to win. If he has a good healthy year this year, the injuries will be a thing of the past and he wont have trouble signing for a good team with a decent deal.

I say trade Adam Dunn!

He is worth far more as a DH than as a LF. Someone like Seattle could really use him to make a run, plus he and Willingham are almost the same player. Trade DUNN!

But what about Adam Dunn bobblehead day?

For heaven’s sake, man, won’t someone please think of the bobbleheads?

It’s time to build for next year. Some playoff-ready teams have prospects at deep positions.

With Nick…a sprained ankle before July 31 and the Nats keep him…and he walks (or limps) to a better team next year.

Heck, I don’t know. I’m sick of losing.

by RoscoeNats on Jun 25, 2009 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

The strategy and idea are fine, but I don't see the players or the teams that are willing to trade them.

I’m all for trading, but I don’t want someone’s Pete Orr in return. Or, someone’s Logan Kensing. Or, someone with a boat anchor contract. Or someone who used-to-be like Soriano…
And those playoff teams keep their good prospects, which is why they are who they are
