Thanks, Nats, for Ryan Langerhans

Oh, and BTW...Mike Morse is not very good at baseball.

As a Mariners fan I have to thank the Nationals for sending Langerhans our way.  A plus defender with an average lefty bat is just what the doctor ordered after Endy Chavez took the Betancourt Express to Season-Ending-Injury-Town. As someone who'd like to see the Nats do well I'd love to say this trade will help both teams.

Unfortunately, the player the Nats got in return is, basically, useless.  Morse has hit for a pretty decent average, but it's also pretty empty (.097 ISO).  The more he plays in the field, the more you will want to punch him in the face.  I'm still shaking from the time I so hated watching him play right field, that I unconsciously willed him to injure himself while diving for a ball.  The guilt may never leave me.

So I hope there was some other reason the Nats were compelled to deal Langerhans, because even they won't find a place where Morse can contribute value, I'm afraid.

Meh

AAA outfielders grow on trees in Nats Town. We need someone new to channel our frustration, anger and overall suckness given we won our last game.

Oh, and as with all Bowden-esque trades… NO RETURNS!

"He probably won't be quite as good as Chavez in the field, but few people are....."

That link to Lookout Landing is just full of nuggets…. I wouldn’t mind having around Endy now, though…

That's the response I'd expect

The Nats have way too many OF’s anyway and Langerhans is a pretty weak-hitting candidate. As for returns…even if Langerhans is a bust the Mariners didn’t give up anything for him so we won’t cry.

The Nationals really need a true CF. Their defense out there has been abominable. How did Bowden manage to construct a roster with like eight corner outfielders on it? And how did he manage not to get fired after doing so? Is it possible to trade owners?

I wish we could trade owners

and trust me, Langerhans is really not someone to get too excited about……….

I hope he does well for you guys, and it was more of a "Free Langerhans" move than anything. Thanks for the links.

Taking Morse might just be a goodwill gesture for the future, although I felt about Ryan “L” the way you guys viewed Morse. Good luck…..

if the Mariners really wanted to make a goodwill gesture

they would have taken Austin Kearns, litteraly i think the Nats would accept a box of cracker jacks and a new scorekeeper for him.

I'd hold out for a fishing room at the Edgewater Inn and a box of baitworms, even though I don't fish....

But those Seattle guys seem nice, so no need to ruin a relationship with Kearns, the one guy you would want to trade within the division for…..

Langerhans had no shot to move up. The trade was a favor to him, moving him along to a team where he could play in the majors. Shows a nice bit of class by the Nats organization.

as said by Rizzo
Acting GM Mike Rizzo mentioned that yesterday’s deal — which sent Ryan Langerhans to Seattle for Mike Morse — was actually a “favor” to Langerhans.

was going to make the same post

This guy obviusly sucks so bad, he’s batting cleanup for a team with a good shot to finish 1st at AAA.

Keep it going. He looks good so far (outside of the human hit machine, Padilla)

Today, he went 0-2 with 2 walks……… Seattle’s won all 3 games…

I really liked Langerhans

He is a big plus with the glove and last season he onbased .380. I would have prefered to have him play everyday in CF for the Nats this season. We would have lost less often had he played. Oh well, the mariners are always proving that they are one of the best talent evaluating teams out there. They did it again. Langerhans deserves to play everyday against right handed pitching and play CF. Now he can!

Did he even suit up for the them?

I recall him flying out there and flying right back without even playing, although my memory may be exaggerated on this point. Langerhans had trouble making contact in the majors, but he could draw a walk and had moderate power when he did manage to hit the ball. Good range and sticky hands in the field. He would be a much better 5th OF than Austin Kearns, although a CF “platoon” of him and TAWH would be two lefties! He’d be great in the corners, too, were they not already overstuffed. He’s a good defensive piece, just no place to fit him in on our addled OF roster…

BOWDEN!!

Snelling...must be the only Aussie to play for the Nats

But he sucked.

He had knee trouble!

Okay, Langerhans was an upgrade…

Snelling had a good eye

look up his stats he walked allot for us. Lead the team in onbase % that season even though he did not play all year.
