The fact they could never work out what the issue was with both pitchers was my main concern. They tried everything and could never work it out… a mystery of the ages.

With Hill, it was a problem related to how he threw sliders.
I don’t recall if they ever figured out exactly what was causing the pain / tightness, though.

No they never could. His MRIs always came up ok.
Scary really. He had a healthy arm according to doctors but always felt sore.

Drew: I attack guys a lot. I throw a hard fastball and two different types of breaking balls. One is what I call a power slurve. It doesn’t have a 12-6 break. It’s more a 2-7:30 break if you’re looking at a clock. It’s 81-83. Then I throw a true slider that’s 87-89. I throw a change, but not in a relief role. I throw a lot of strikes. My command got a little stronger this year. My fastball is in the zone even when I get hit. That’s what happens when you throw strikes. I’m not one of those guys who’s going to be effectively wild. I don’t walk guys. I leave the ball up in the zone sometimes and pay for it. But I always try to jump ahead of guys and make them bite on a ball out of the zone when I get ahead.

The Nationals, meanwhile, had trouble getting a feel for home plate umpire Andy Fletcher’s strike zone. Seven of their nine strikeouts came on a called strike three, and the Nos. 3 and 4 hitters — Ryan Zimmerman and Adam Dunn — each had an at-bat in which they started down the line to first assuming they’d drawn a walk on a full-count pitch — only to have Fletcher crank his arm to signal the ball had grazed the outside corner.
The final out came in a similar way. Pinch-hitter Austin Kearns thought he had drawn a low pitch for ball four, but Fletcher called him out to end the game.
