New Manager 2010

Just trying to get a pulse out there on who you guys think should manage the club in 2010.  I know this is premature b/c we haven't seen Riggs do anything yet but I was just curious to see what everyones opinion was on the issue.

Plenty of talk around Bobby V coming over from Japan but he would cost over 4 mil.  It will be interesting to see how the NL East shakes out in the next couple of years.  You have to think Manuel is gone from NY if they don't make the playoffs.  If the Phils win the WS (god forbid) again then I would think Charlie Manuel would retire, and Bobby Cox has to retire sooner or later.

You also have to think Girardi may be up for grabs again.

Bobby V.!!!!......... it's easy to type in a game thread...

RIGGLER!! The game-thread jokes practically write themselves!

(Seriously, though? Kirk Gibson.)

Kind of like it, but he is a bench coach on another crappy team so why would he deserve the job? We need someone that is gonna light a fire under these boys and actually argue with the umps more than once a year. And o yea give me a pitching coach pleeeeeeeeeeaaase…

I vote Bobby V

and hope he makes our players practice defense as much as they do in Japan.

That’s my hope, too. The Lerners aren’t going to want to do it, but they really need to start pumping money into this team if they want to maintain any semblance of fanhood. Most people only want to follow a contender.

Hey, Riggleman spent 15 minutes working with Zimmerman on throwing yesterday.....

That’s a huge chunk out of the day after worrying about it for 3 months……..

I think the Pads asked if he would be a pitching coach...

He has two teenage kids so I think he just wants to be a dad right now. But if he could manage and bring his brother along as the pitching coach, then that would be pretty cool.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Glavine as the pitching coach, I think Kasten could talk him in to it.

Maddux or Glavine

i think both would be better suited sticking to being a pitching coach before jumping straight to a manager. Granted they both are very wise and have been around a long time, but its one thing to play and be a leader from the club house and its another to manage in a more authoritarian position. They will both eventually get there I think though. Regardless of who the Nats choose, it has to be someone who can motivate and who the players like and will play for. (Willie Randolph didnt have this success is NY)

what about Bob Melvin

the recent Dbacks coach. Has some experience mentoring younger players, getting pitching staffs to overachieve and playing small ball but not ignoring the numbers. I like it!

THINK ABOUT IT!!

true, but you snooze you lose

By the time those guys are what you consider ready to be a manager, other teams with better rosters and better owners will also be interested in their services. The Nationals will not be able to hire anyone who can get a managerial job elsewhere already.
