Former Mets' GM Jim Duquette, On XM's Power Alley with Seth Everett and Jim Duquette, talking about the Nationals:
"To do the Nationals the right service for the fans and the organization, you have to go out and do a search, and once you decide Manny Acta is not the guy, you have to go out and do a search. So (Jim) Riggleman becomes the interim guy, the bridge, to get you to whoever it is that you're going to end up hiring at the end of the offseason. You have to go through a whole managerial search in my opinion, because I don't think Riggleman's the guy long term for them..."

I agree, I don’t think Riggleman is the long-term guy, which is why I was surprised and upset when he became the guy at all, even temporarily. Why wouldn’t the Nats have thought this through, and started talking to possible long-term guys when they decided they wanted Manny gone? Picking Riggleman just because he was easy was a boneheaded move, and a waste of half a season that otherwise could have given the long-term manager something to build from.

Quinn. That picture of the kitten is hilarious.
So, if Rizzo stays, will he push for Bob Melvin? The D-Backs were decent but that was when there was no competition in the NL West and they had a stud pitching rotation.

I’m glad you like it! I happen to be a fan of ATHF, so Master Shake is equally awesome.

It does seem like management conseeded the season with the Riggleman promotion...
Is this the plan? Get a whole bunch of first, first round picks to get the prospect chain rolling. If that were the case then we should have seen better pick down the line. Yes, they cost money but between the MASN paycheck and the MLB paycheck you’d think the Lerner’s would put in that money. They did say that tey were put all of their profits back into the team for the first ten years, right. I think Manny’s firing is the turning point of this team. This is the fork. Where are they going though, eh !!!

Why Manny Acta had to go immediately is beyond me...
…it made more sense to let him play out the year and then move on if there were no signs of improvement. There’s inevitably going to be a more attractive candidate at the end of the year, and then it starts all over again with a new Manager…new coaches? A new GM? When does it end?

Right, exactly! Sure, things were bad, but if Manny had to go, they should have at least picked someone from outside the organization to bring some fire in.

It's nearly impossible to hire a legit Manager or GM mid-season...
…you don’t just go out and hire the best available man/woman for the job, the whole process of searching for a new manager is too involved, so you promote from within and hire in the offseason…

Yeah, makes sense, I really hope that’s what they end up doing.

Sorry, Mr. Riggles...
…you better find a way to make a big impression…cause no Manager out there is going to want you lurking in the wings if you keep on getting hired like this…

Manny obviously wasn’t getting results from the players he had and would have walked after not having his option picked up after the season. Dumping him now didn’t make much sense. That said, the Nats announcers who actually played the game (Knight and Dibs) both said a change had to be made. Nobody knows clubhouses better than people who played. Press doesn’t count for squat in my opinion.
