The closer it gets, I'm starting to get a Crow-like anger in me...

Just sign already…

Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

I read four or five blogs today where all these Padres folks finally figured that out at once...

Maybe Aaron Crow won’t sign with Houston and we can get Strasburg and Crow again next year and San Diego will get Bryce Harper…

Sorry, Crow with Kansas City...(Why'd I write Houston? Weird...)

I haven't liked Boras for a long time...but I still think Strasburg signs...

Nahh I don't live in San Diego anymore

Maybe Strasburg will play for the Long Island Ducks next season though I can watch him some more.

Nope, Nationals hire Tony Gwynn as Manager, sign Strasburg, draft Harper...Youtube Sensation pans out...

I’m going to keep calling him “The Youtube sensation” and see if i can get it to catch on…

I don't think Gwynn will be the manager before the signing deadline.

Not very serious...

Admit it. You were serious. Kidding.

I’d take him as a hitting coach. Who better to learn from than somebody who was actually a great hitter in the big leagues.

Like Lenny Harris?

Being a great hitter doesn’t mean you can teach being a great hitter. FIRE LENNY! AGAIN!

Lenny was a good pinch hitter. Tony Gwynn was better!!!

I think he would too. Its also a year of MLB service time he would be giving up. I suspect its just usual bluster

its a big gamble for him not to sign too

Its not just a one sided deal…

That's what I expect...

I remember checking every 30 seconds last season to see if any Crow news broke…

Bowden I think had some ego on the line there too.

Dont believe the Boras pressers… its just a tactic.

I have blind faith

I think they are keen to get it done. They showed a willingness on the Tex negotiations. Zims contract renewal… there is a bit there to suggest that they are trying.

The contract extension was unquestionably good news.

I still think they never thought they were getting Tex, though.

by Chris Pendley on Jul 25, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

well maybe so

But they stuck up the cash and it was a choice of Tex for the best team in baseball… it wasnt because they were cheap…or didnt give it a go.

Just sayn… I think they are keen to make it happen and Crow aside- we havent been given a reason to suggest that it wont.

Were they ever offering more cash than anyone else?

I know the Yankees swept in at the last minute, but I forget who was in the lead between Baltimore and DC.

by Chris Pendley on Jul 25, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions

DC moneywise...

I still wonder if the Yankees were operating under the table the entire time.

It never added up to me that they came in at the 11th hour and won with relatively little activity prior to then.

by Chris Pendley on Jul 25, 2009 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Im sure of the cash was close

then the Yanks win on position alone.

New guys in the Old Boys Club

Don’t want to offend the Grand Poobah (by screwing up his “slot plan”, which would cost all the others forever……) and who holds the reward biscuit of an All Star Game for 85 year old daddy, who just wants to honour the Poobah……

It’s just one amateur player……. not like it’s future mall property or anything….

No, I meant I was.

Well, am. Strasburg is just another piece of the puzzle.

by Chris Pendley on Jul 25, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

If you fail to sign a player

He can decline to be drafted by the same team in the following draft I believe. Donavon Tate probably won’t sign with San Diego so if they both don’t sign next years draft would be.

1. Nationals
2. Nationals
3. Padres
4. Padres
