Game 102: two-thirds of a good outing...

290730108_nationals_brewers_136449389_lbig_medium

via www.fangraphs.com

Yaaay! Ryan Zimmerman's two-out, three-run, go-ahead bomb (+0.314)
Booo! J.D. Martin gives up the tying dinger (-0.208)
teh Hero The Z-man! (+0.253)
teh Goat "And Coke" Martin (-0.260)

Dishonorable mentions for West's missed calls, Nieves' missed tag, and Elvis' missed DP.  It was a good six innings, and Martin deserved better than he got.  (The numbers are how much the odds of winning changes after each play.  You start with a 50% chance to win, and at the end of the game it adds up to +0.5 for a win, -0.5 for a loss.)

I apologize if it’s already been written…the Brewers hadn’t won back to back games since the end of June.

Still, I feel better about JD Martin after this game.

Just watched the replays, and that was a chicken____ call by West on the tag at the plate.

Players get hurt if you call that safe when the ball beats the runner. Yeah, Nieves needed to drop the glove, but that makes catchers very vulnerable.

They're going for the season sweep, aren't they?

BTW Doghouse, you're off the hook for the winning series thing.......

I read it was Nats 2, Brewers 1, and the fat ump 1…..

I've had quite enough of ex-Marlins pitching, thankyouverymuch........

I’m not that crazy about their position players, either.

Latest Elias Rankings

Now that they’ve been corrected…………

Nick Johnson Washington None 50.77 1b

Tucker’s fallen out of favor quite a bit this season. He’s been hurt for a lot of the season, and he hasn’t looked so good at AAA, going just 9.2 innings with 5 strikeouts and 12 walks in 3 starts. It’s worth noting that he was ranked pretty highly prior to what’s been a lost season for him.

John Sickels ranked him their #6 prospect heading into 2009.

6) Ryan Tucker, RHP, Grade B: He needs another pitch if he wants to start, but the ceiling stands out as excellent.

Baseball America had him #5 in the Marlins organization, ahead of Matt Dominguez, Chris Coghlan, and Gaby Sanchez.

Baseball Prospectus had him a little lower, at eighth.

Sickels had Thompson at #15

15) Aaron Thompson, LHP, Grade C+: Could be a C. I don’t like the way his Double-A numbers slipped and I worry about health.

The only thing I can find on him anywhere else is that he supposedly has the best changeup in their minor league system according to Baseball America.

He’s been decent for a 22-year-old in AA with a 4.11 ERA and 3.87 FIP. Middling strikeout numbers, average control.

Well okay then...... Harrisburg does need some pitching going forward.......

Looks like career minor league dreck… inventory…

With Thompson, I'm thinking so

Not sure on Tucker. 2009 certainly has to be chalked up as a lost year, and he’ll be 23 next season. He dominated AA when healthy last season. Tucker’s future may well be in the bullpen, but hey…. high ceiling starter moved to the bullpen because he can’t figure out that third pitch. Certainly nothing to get too excited about, but if they were to get them both (or one and an offensive prospect), I wouldn’t feel horrible about giving up a rental player for them.

The fact that another team has jumped into the mix can only help. Even if they don’t trade him there, that may help up the asking price for the next 20 hours around the league.

And as Mr. Chigliak has always said, getting anything for Nick Johnson is better than nothing....

What?….

Rockies???

Now the Rockies may want Nick as a left-handed bat off the bench. Maybe a package deal with Nick and Beimel would work…heck I have no clue who the Rockies have to offer.

Not so sure myself

I can’t imagine they’d even sniff Jhoulys Chacin, who they just brought up to the bigs as a reliever. Christian Friedrich (LHP, still looks a ways off)? Eric Young, Jr. to solve the 2b issues going forward?
