wow,…. a new one. At least they left the “o” in….

I did like “valiant Nationals” that one time…

Apparently you didn’t check all the articles from today on the Row. I’m sure the headlines are growing as dull as the Nationals’ record – just keep in ind the Row’s audience is Rockies fans that only pay attention to the Nats twice a year. But I don understand. The Rockies will never be on national TV without dozens of mentions of “Coors Canaveral” and the humidor.

What I find amazing is that every team thinks the Nats will be a sweep...

We’re not that bad – and soon im predicting we’re going to deal out a good old fashioned walloping to some of these arrogant teams. One thing that this team is to me…is streaky. And it goes both ways – put on a nice 10 game win streak and earn some respect.

I'm not sure about a sweep

In fact I pretty much never predict such a thing. But if there were ever a time to predict one, it would probably be against a team that is winning less than a third of their games, less than a fourth of their road games and is trotting out three rookie starting pitchers. Don’t you think?

That said, the Rockies have underestimated the Nats in years past and have some ugly series losses to prove it

At least we don't have to face Matt Holliday anymore...

Holliday vs DC – 44 for 128, .344 AVG, 14 2B, 7 HR’s, 31 RBI’s, .417 OBP…etc…

DC will win one of these, that’s kinda their thing, but you’re getting the Nationals on a roll right now…(at least what counts for a roll from the Nationals)…

by Patrick Reddington on Jul 6, 2009 8:32 PM EDT up reply actions

That's a pretty ridiculous line for Holliday

He had that against many teams. I’m confused by what you mean by being on a roll. 4-6 in the last ten and 2-4 in the last six might be better than the Nats’ season winning percentage, but that’s not really being on a roll, even if you took the last two from Atlanta

Take the fish out...

Who we just cant beat… and its a different story. The worst part was we should have won all 3 games against the fish too.

This reads like a comment I read about the Rockies after our Dodgers series
Take the Dodgers out, who we just cant beat… and its a different story. The worst part was we should have won all 3 games against the Dodgers too.

Take out Rox/LA games, and the Rockies have the best win %age in the NL. Unfortunately, all the games count, and those three games against the Fish count 1.5 times more than the 2 games you won by two against ATL.

I can relate

I was a fan of the Nuggets team that went 11-71 in the 90’s. Winning ONE game was on a roll then…

by Andrew T. Fisher on Jul 6, 2009 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

On stats maybe

But anyone who has watched the team knows that they are improving, the rookie pitching is actually very good (and is often been let down by the pen), and more often than not the games are very close. It just we are losing the close games…

I can see how teams would think we’re easy beats… I just think we’re not.

I'm not here to pick a fight, just to engage in friendly debate

“losing close games” – as I noted in my series preview, you guys have indeed been victims of that, coming in six games lower than your Pyth W-L. With that said, you have the worst run differential in the majors, and only one team is within 35 of your -101. The Rockies were dead even in runs but 10 games under 500…that’s losing close games.

I lean towards using tRA to evaluate pitchers, and that stat does not favor Nats pitchers at all. Then again, to each their own on their method of analysis.

I know

And im not trying to be overly optimistic. We’ve played very badly for the most part. But id be very surprised to lose all 3. We’ll see.

The Rockies don't have Jamey Carroll anymore...

I'm not trying to burst your bubble either :)

just debating, getting inside the head of opposing fans. You have some good young players, and I suppose adding Strasburg and perhaps that young catcher out of Vegas could help

Dunn, Morgan And Dukes? Will It Ever Happen?

I wish they would have let Morgan and Dukes share the clubhouse and the OF for a bit and seen how might’ve worked out. Nyjer might have been a Friend of Dukes and changed everything…

Yea, he's got the tools

I think he’ll come good. Probably needs some time. I like the way he hasnt blown up off the field. I think if he comes good it will be good for the Nats – they took a guy with real ‘issues’ and got him back on track. My only issue is that Bowden took that as a way to do it with every basket case in the league… one project might be ok. Several is a disaster.

But I suspect Rizzo is going to move him.

I think the Hammer is doing well – and improved his defense a bit too.

"Baseball is like church. Many attend; few understand."

by Mezza on Jul 6, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I just don't feel anyone's going to fear Hammer's arm, and he's in no danger of a web gem.

I think Dunn’s early success was due to Dukes batting behind him, as well.

fair point

But if ends up being an average outfielder…with a very good bat – would we take that?

Dukes is definitely the man to have the potential to be an All Star…but needs to attitude and drive to get there.

I was okay with Hammer in LF and hoped he got over his back injury to contribute when he signed.

But he’s in RF tonight, despite Kearn’s numbers against Marquis, so that’s that. His performance just hasn’t stuck out for me this year.

But Belliard gets another start, so I have a past hero to cheer…

Ben Goessling's pregame excitement...

That’s all the pregame news—unless you’re curious about my near-arrest. As you’ve probably seen, Mark and I do a pregame segment on MASN’s broadcasts, which requires us to go down to the field after the clubhouse has closed. Well, when I got to the field, credentials in plain sight, I was met by an eager-to-impress security guard who immediately told me I couldn’t come onto the field and I’d have to come with him. Managed to do the TV segment before diffusing the situation with his much-calmer supervisor, but that was interesting for a minute. I guess 6-foot-1, 160-pound reporters are a big security threat in Denver. Kind of flattering, actually.

Did we already see this? Sorry if it's a repeat.

Three players who were in the game are no longer with the club. Catcher Jesus Flores has been on the disabled list since May 15 with a stress fracture inside his right shoulder; right-handed reliever Joel Hanrahan was traded on Tuesday as part of a four-player deal that brought back outfielder Nyjer Morgan and left-hander Sean Burnett; and after the trade, center fielder Elijah Dukes was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

On Monday, Acta announced that Morgan will replace Dukes and catcher Josh Bard will replace Flores, but there has been no word on who will replace Hanrahan, if needed.

ugh, so it wasn't a quick liner or contact play.....

“Guzman hit a high comebacker to Marquis, who plucked it out of the air and picked off Dunn at third after he lurched too far down the line.

“Josh Bard then singled to right, but third base coach Pat Listach held up Willingham”

I guess Listach has to hold Hammer with one out,…… I guess…

From Jayson Stark…this was first time since 1900 Phillies won a game by 20+. They won a 29-4 game in 1894 and a 24-0 game in 1887.

Phillies won 22-1 over the Reds.
