Attempted pickoff at 2nd would've caught the runner.
The runner at 3rd darted home and got caught in a bit of a rundown in the meantime. End of inning.

But it seems to be the way these guys operate…they’ve never made a quick decision in their lives.
Padilla walked into the Nats' clubhouse for the first time and said, "My God. I'm in heaven."
I know they have to go through the interview process before hiring, that's why they had to promote from with in with an "interim" status to avoid doing the interviews in March when everyone had jobs...
…and though they won’t say anything, all of this may just be what the “have” to do to satisfy the demands of whatever regulations there are before officially hiring Rizzo.

sure but you could do that in a week
as long as you interview at least one candidate from a minority group
"What you know is often the enemy of what you can learn" Bill James
I didn't mind the interview search...
but I think now the Stras stuff is done – they need to make a call either way. Give some ppl some certainty and start getting it together for next season. In a way – I would have preferred that they have a manager also in place soon for next season…but I suspect they might want to wait and see if there are other alternatives (ie. Valantine).

Actually, his UZR/150 is second highest (among all positions) in baseball
In what might be detrimental to the stat’s significance, Juan Rivera (19.8) has been #1 in baseball, though he’s played just over 700 innings in the field.
Beyond Rivera, it starts to look a little more like you’d expect it to. Zimm, Franklin Gutierrez, Jack Wilson…..

Not arguing that Rivera is a heck of a hitter
But he’s not known for his glove. UZR/150 judges only his defense. Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games

next year we stick him in RF for every game and see what he can do
I doubt he will be an MVP but I’ll bet he will be much better WAR wise

RIZZO!

A day before Starsburg day
I am getting the feeling Rizzo’s job security has alot to do with Strasburg’s success… and likely quick success

I agree with you....
and you know I’m a big Donkey fan. But that was just awful …and not really acceptable. Soomebody needs to tell him there’s a difference between waiting for the walk with no one on and going for the hit when base runners are in scoring position and the Nats are behind.
IMHO, of course.
