It is miserable out...
…no sign of rain, but hot and humid. If his had been a day game I might have stayed home. There was a recent article on fangraphs about CO’s rotation: it’s good, because it’s healthy. No scrabbling through the replacement-level rubbish bin, they’ve mostly had the same starters who range from quite good to only slightly below average (like tonight).
Cross your fingers for a win. LET’S GO NATS GO!!

CARP, YOU'RE STARING AT THE WRONG THING.
Mock’s K/9 was 7.9 in both July and August. Focus on that – it’s luck returning. That peripheral is fantastic for a starter.
Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs
fun with numbers
Mock’s ERA: 5.27
FIP: 4.80
hence, a regression was inevitable.
by my count the score is:
numbers: infinity
Rob dibble and his “theories”: 0
fip
fielder independent pitching, takes into account everything the pitcher can control, including walks, k’s and hrs…
That's one stat I really like since it judges the pitcher's performance regardless of what his fielders do or don't do...

ive heard about that
what does it actually messure?
That's half the problem. I forget.
But it neutralizes for park factors and I think includes some HR/FB regression and a few other factors.

however dibble prefers to focus on how "comfortable" he is
because Rob Dibble is actually an omnipresence, and knows how all beings are feeling at all times
Since when does Dibble know anything about feelings?
Men don’t know anything about feelings, and he’s a man. (Is he forty?)

They had an NL scout rating the Nats when the Stras deal was done…and Dukes wasnt mentioned in terms of the long term core guys. Doesnt mean much – but I found it interesting that other teams scouts look at Morgan and Hammer as long term pieces and Dukes didnt get a mention.

I can hear the people now....
we paid 50 dollars for these seats…we don’t want a 10 dollar seat person sitting next to us.
speaking of Cincy...
i’ll have to post the series of pics i got on Willingham’s collision at home. the wife (who is our photographer) was up on the concourse, so she handed me the camera.
not to brag, but i got a really good series of shots as Hanigan jumped for the ball, Willingham hammered him, and then hanigan dropping the ball.
i’llpost themlater when we get home if anyone is interested.

Had a long second day rigging the motorcycle wire act....
My head guy used a computer, then left it to me. Their head guy was a kid that didn’t want to trust “some old Polish circus guy”….
Turns out, after one of my suggestions worked, and the OPCG got what he wanted all along, that it was a guy I’d watched rig from the old days, who was, of course, one of the most experienced circus riggers ever…
We had a laugh….then I collapsed in pain at home….

So i had my fingers crossed for you the whole time.

Why, thank you MissB....
I am pretty much a late second generation tech…. One of the guys in the first company I worked for did sound at Woodstock. The rock ‘n’ roll guys I learned from were the originals. The kid circus rigger started out on Trans Siberian Orchestra as an asst. sound guy, and got thrown into the rigging job when the TSO rigger dropped some stuff. So, rookie mistakes abound these days, because they don’t come up through the ranks.
Same as everywhere, I suppose. Like TV news readers….

MLBTR has a Gammons article on Rizzo's Strasburg negotiations and how we had to announce Rizzo early to kill all the rumors.
Fine by me.

I'll get you some highlights, just read it, not much there...except for how Rizzo won the Strasburg family over...

Strasburg Plan:
GAMMONS:
“It was Rizzo who got the Strasburg family’s trust when he went to their house and laid out his developmental plan — no gimmicky ticket sales appearances in Washington in September (he hasn’t pitched since May), a throwing program leading up to the Florida Instructional League, 5-6 starts in the Arizona Fall League, a total of approximately 40 innings between the instructional and Arizona leagues, then a major league invite to spring training.”

Yea but as long as you are learning…that’s all that matters. You’ve just got to look at it as MLB level. Next one works out…and your batting 333.
