"The turning point is going to come when he can really recognize the breaking ball (like Sammy Sosa)," Riggleman said.

http://masnsports.com/2009/08/dukes-scratched-from-start.html

Dukes, according to Riggleman, has been battling swing issues and his left thumb is a little banged up.

“He’s been a little concerned about his swing and his mechanics,” Riggleman said. “He went in the cage yesterday and swung and swung and swung and now he has something going on with his thumb. He’s not real comfortable with his thumb, it kind of blistered up and he irritated it and he’s just a little to sore to play."

ATLANTA — Still feeling some discomfort in his right hamstring, Marlins first baseman Nick Johnson may not be ready for the upcoming series with the Mets at Land Shark Stadium.

Johnson has been resting a strained right hamstring since Aug. 16. The team has been holding off placing him on the disabled list, hoping that he would be ready for the series with the Mets, which starts on Tuesday.

On Sunday morning, Johnson did a series of agility drills, testing his hamstring. He still is experiencing soreness.

“It’s not 100 percent,” Johnson said.

Asked if he would be ready for New York, he said: “After what I just did, I don’t see that happening.”

When did the Nats even put him on the roster? Or is he like one of those guys from a SNL skit who just seems to show up at places where he’s not officially allowed? LOL Just kidding, Morse. Let’s see some base hits and good plays in the field.

Hmm, I see that he has had one at-bat in each of the last two games. I guess I wasn’t watching that closely.

He plays the corners now, was doing well at Seattle for a bit, then got hurt and languished in AAA lately with no room in the big league club. We was in AAA when we did the trade.

She thought he was Mark Lerner and thanked him for bringing baseball back to DC. (Lerner was actually sitting in front of us, next to Rizzo—Mrs D’s friend had the two of them mixed up).

Maybe he can borrow some of Morgan's...

Zim doesn’t have a lot of SB, but he’s a heads-up baserunner, like when he took second on his RBI single in the first. Honestly, I think that sort of thing (extra base on a throw, going first-to-third, etc) is much more important on the basepaths than swiping bags. Zimmy has good instincts for that stuff. Maybe he can give Dukes lessons?

Good catch by Bard.

I really like his attitude. On playing with an injury:

“I look at it as a lunch box mentality,” Bard said. “There are a lot of people who are sick and get up at 6 in the morning to go to work. They are making $10 an hour. I’m sitting here going, ‘The Lerners have been gracious enough to provide a tremendous amount of income for me and my family.’ I feel like if I can walk, I want to get out there and play.”

Outfielder Roger Bernadina, who has been out since April with a fractured right ankle, is out for the season, according to GM Mike Rizzo. The Nationals had hoped he’d be back with the team by now, but he hasn’t progressed the way they would have liked.

“About two or three weeks ago, we thought he was really going to get into some ball games, but he wasn’t moving around on it well enough that the trainers felt comfortable to put him in a game, so they slowed his rehab,” interim manager Jim Riggleman said. “The latest I’ve heard is that he’s doing very well and his treatment is coming along.”

Bernadina is in Florida rehabbing, but they don’t want to rush him back.

Oh. Not a good GBA.

Not awful, but not good.

Don't want to jinx it, but I gotta get a bookcase at IKEA.

Looks like this one is in good shape. Enjoy the game, everyone!

Funny you should ask........

I didn’t block off the cat door, since Mama Raccoon made an early pitstop and Caitlin chased her away (never seen her run so fast….). I heard some noise in the night, fumbled for the lightswitch (I saw the shadows jump off the cat platform), and real #1 and 2 were standing in the kitchen staring at me, just like in the pictures.
They’re almost as big as Mama now……….I told them it really would be best they didn’t count on sneaking in for snacks……and they trundled back out disappointed….

Caitln slept through the whole thing….

I usually don't let Caitlin out, as I didn't know if the little ones would scatter quickly enough...

But, it’s time for them to go back to being wild….and to be somewhat afraid of humans and dogs….They’re looks were like, “Do we have to?”….Yes……. And why am I having this conversation with the two of you? Should you not already be out the door?

That’s the first time the babies came in, that I know of….

That's VERY funny...

Alas, the problem with raccoons living in close proximity to humans is that they do become so bold and then turn into nuisances when they try tot ake over the joint.

Caitlin sounds as aware as my dogs when I was in San Diego after the big wildfires a few years ago. It seemed like all the mice moved west —to get away fro the fire and toward the ocean (no dummies).

One night I was eating dinner with the back door open and saw a couple of mice running through the kitchen and into the living room. Neither dog moved a muscle, not one, just continued sleeping and ignored the mice completely. Sheepdogs, humph.

Caitlin does notice Mama when she pokes her head in the catdoor and get's very excited....

But, after lights-out, she’s off the clock….

Yeah, the raccoons need to learn for their own good…I went through this before and had the re-locate two generations of 18 raccoons…

It’s one thing for dogs to ignore mice……. My large herd of cats (but one) ignored rats when I first moved into this place…. That’s lazy….
