Things I didn't expect to see turbo-scrolling to the comments:

Lannan v. Smoltz. This whole Smoltz thing where he’s not pitching for the Braves is weird.

Eric Berry for sending the guy who wins the Heisman spinning 720 degrees in the air at the podium - or for intercepting it and returning it to where it rightfully belongs

This whole Smoltz pitching at all is weird.........

Hey, he claims his success in his last game was due to movng his heel closer to the rubber… Cabrera?

Did u see Hamilton's story on Storen?

I like this kid already…

We were talking about hockey, which led to hockey fights, which led to this.) Have you ever had a fight on the field?

“Fortunately not. I challenged a guy in high school to do it but he didn’t. He was a lot bigger than me. He kind of stared me down. … [I did it] completely knowing the first baseman would get to him before I did.

“That’s one thing about playing pro ball, that’s an option. In college that’s not an option. You get in so much trouble. So now it’s a legitimate concern. If you throw inside you better be ready to go. And me being ready to go is standing right on top of the mound and waiting for somebody to intercept him before he gets to me. (He’s laughing as he says this.) It’s a whole new aspect of the game.”

yeah, good stuff

his interview when he was were after he signed was real good too. the kid sounds confident but not cocky. you gotta like that in a closer. also, seems to have humility, which will help him bounce back from the bad nights. can’t wait to see him in Arizona in the AFL.

Off to the game

The one Nats game I’ll get to see in person this year. Working the next two days, but I’ll be watching it at work. In case I somehow end up on TV, I’ll be wearing a Zimmerman jersey and an oldschool white Expos hat.

PS. There was supposedly a 0% chance of precipitation in St. Louis today, but it’s been misting all day.

Rizzo on the pregame...

Orr can play all 4 IF spots and 2 OF spots. And picked him over J-Max because Max is a righty and also he wouldn’t be getting all the at bats.

Hawksworth is a point of contention for STL fans

we wish he’d develop into a back of the rotation type starter, but it isn’t working. and LaDunc insists on keeping 13 pitchers on the roster, including a couple of “long relief” types, which include Hawk and Brad Thompson. We kind of wish he’d just make a decision. Hawksworth is a mediocre major league pitcher – doesn’t bring anything to the table, but is serviceable, at least right now. And the clock is ticking pretty fast on whether or not he develops.
