GameThread: Arizona Diamondbacks At Washington Nationals - Game 112 Of 162.
Arizona Diamondbacks at Washington Nationals, Aug 9, 2009 1:35 PM EDT
Today's Starting Pitchers Are Going To Stare At You Now...
• Yusmeiro Petit is (2-0) in his last two starts and he enters Nationals Park with a streak of 14.0 scoreless innings on the line. In back to back D-Backs' wins over the Phils and Pirates in Petit's outings, the 24-year-old Arizona right-hander has walked 4, K'd 12 and allowed 5 hits. Before the two wins, Petit was (0-5) in 10 starts with the Diamondbacks 1-9 with him on the mound...Winless in 4 starts since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse, DC's 26-year-old right-hander, J.D. Martin hasn't won a game since June 23rd, when he led the Chiefs to a 6-1 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Tracking The Bad Zimmermann News...
• MLB.com's Bill Ladson Blog: All Nats All the Time: "Nationals have concerns about Zim's elbow"
"But before making an announcement about the Zimmermann's elbow, the Nationals are taking the MRI to Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., to determined what's wrong with Zimmermann's elbow..."
"Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann did not have his scheduled bullpen session on Friday because he continues to have tightness in his right elbow. He will have an MRI soon to determine the seriousness of the injury."
• "Nationals' Zimmermann Plagued by Elbow Discomfort" - washingtonpost.com's Zach Berman
"Jordan Zimmermann did not pitch his scheduled bullpen session Friday because of elbow discomfort, prolonging the rookie pitcher's stay on the disabled list..."
• Washington Times: Chatter - "J. Zimmermann MRI shows 'concerning facts'" - Mark Zuckerman
"If you're Jordan Zimmermann, what's the last name you want to hear right now? Dr. James Andrews. Unfortunately for the Nationals' rookie right-hander, an MRI of his injured elbow has been sent to the noted orthopedist, who will look at it Monday and recommend a course of action for the club and its top young pitcher."
• "Nats' Jordan Zimmermann seeks second opinion" - MLB - SI.com: AP Report
"The Washington Nationals have asked renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews to look at the MRI of right-hander Jordan Zimmermann's sore elbow."
• "Zimmermann's Elbow Situation Worsening" - washingtonpost.com's Zach Berman
"There was some concerning facts in our MRI when it was read by our team doctor," Rizzo said. Andrews is "going to read [the MRI images] Monday and we'll have a more definitive answer on Monday."
• NATIONALS NEWS NETWORK- Dave Nichols - "GB&U GAME 111: Lucky Seven; Nats Beat Snakes 5-2"
"The logical reason to send just the results to Andrews, and not Zimmermann himself for an evaluation, is to confirm their diagnosis that surgery is necessary, and Zimmermann will be lost for the rest of the season."

Not trying to ruin my day by talking about Zimm(N)
Dare I say Ocho? Lineup looks good. Why not?!
Go Nats Go!
Go Chiefs Go!
Yusmeiro?...... I'm thinking he falls back to earth....
“…last Tuesday in Pittsburgh, he had a no-hitter through seven innings
Philadelphia managed just two hits against him through the first six innings…."
A combined 1st inning walloping, and the patented hiding in the bushes then jumping strategy every other inning or so is called for…

Keep the good times rollin'!
After yesterday’s game, I think these Nationals are capable of anything. I was at the game, and I thought they had maybe a 20% chance of winning against Dan Haren, and then they hit him for five earned runs. Haren is one of the top five pitchers in the league (#1 in opponent batting average), and the Nationals rolled all over him.
It truly is a good time to be a Nats fan.

95 degrees or hotter on the field.
These snake people are used to playing in the A/C. Maybe we can catch a break and win one for a change.
What? No!. Seven? Really. OK. Go Nats
It's not the heat, it's the humidity.
I was outside for about 30 minutes around noon today…. MAN, it’s going to be nasty down there. Anyone going to the game needs to be careful.

Boston is totally on the hook for his whole salary now. All the Nats have to do is send him up there.
DO NOT SCREW THIS UP.
Guzman still at short, so it's going to be post or mid-game if he's gone...

Like Rios in Toronto (claimed by White Sox allegedly)...
I think the Nats have 48 hours to make a decision.
Boston is all in now. Can’t unclaim him!
depending on when Boston made the claim
and if they were awarded the claim, they’ll have 48 hours to make a deal.

I firmly believe (not really) that he was so bad at the WBC because it was early in ST and he hadn’t played 1B very much. Plus, the whole full stadium thing could be scary.

Well, although potatoes and tomatoes (as well as

I was under the impression that it’s not the same blight/fungus but a similar one that attacks tomatoes. The science part of my brain requires that I now go find the truth!
