Guzman claimed off waivers by Red Sox, according to Boston Globe
This is nothing but good news. If Boston's waiver claim is awarded, the two teams have 48 hours to either work out a deal, let the Sox assume Guzman's contract, or the Nats can withdraw the waivers.
If Boston is willing to take on Guzman's salary, freeing up $8 million next year that could go towards Strasburg or Orlando Hudson potentially, they would be doing the Nationals a HUGE favor.

Dream come true.
Let him go for nothing. Probably about $10 million in saving. He’s been incredible and this is a dream scenario.
…and, um, Guzman deserves to be in a playoff race? Yeah…it’s for him. We love him enough to let him go.
Yeah, it's time....but I'm not going to be happy about it.....

I Am
He’s been a good hitter and a decent player but its clear he is in delcine. He wont be better next season…certainly not in the field where he is leading the team on Es. $8m that can be put forward to closers, middle infielders, and other holes on the team.
Good luck to him though. He’s been a good player and great hitter for us….hope he wins it all.

Alberto........for a little over two weeks..........

TAWH/Belli can take second.

In my opinion, you take this gift from baseball heaven and shed about 10 million dollars of payroll…then shortstop by committee for the rest of the season. Put TAWH to good use.
Then worry about finding a shortstop in the offseason.
Look at the availabler SSs for the offseason
It is not a pretty picture

Jack Wilson is far and away the best available guy. Assuming Seattle does not keep him.

I doubt Marco Scutaro will be available but he is on the list
So maybe the “far and away” is stretching it. but still.

Just doesn't matter. Dropping a bad contract is a good thing.
Maybe one of the kids in the pipeline will step up. Never know.

Bring UP DESMOND!

I really like this until I look at who is available at SS as free agents next year
then I cringe. We badly need to develop a high quality SS in our system.

Guzman is not the answer--but neither is anyone else!

Smiley should be ready? What? Why is everyone looking at me weird? Did I miss something???

Isn't he a bit young?
Padilla walked into the Nats' clubhouse for the first time and said, "My God. I'm in heaven."
The Red Sox, with all their money and prestige, have been trying to buy or develop a SS since they stole Cabrera in 2004.
Once Guz, with all his faults, is gone, that will be the Nats’ reality. Alberto or Desmond are our only hope…

Or we could trade one of the pitchers for one?
I think we’ll be in a decent trade position next season to move a surplus pitcher for some of these needs.

Anyone you have in mind?...... As I said, if the Sox can't find one, what chances do the Nats have?
