GameThread: Washington Nationals At Philadelphia Phillies - Game 145 Of 162.
Washington Nationals at Philadelphia Phillies, Sep 16, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
Livan Hernandez Has Something He Wants To Show You...
• Joe Blanton was out in the 5th when these two faced off last week in DC, Livan lasted 7.1, allowing 6 hits and 2 ER, and then watched as the bullpen tried to blow it, giving up 5 runs in the ninth to allow the Phillies within one before Ron Villone came on for the save and the Nationals' 48th win of '09.
• Hernandez is (3-5) in his last 10 starts, but just (1-5) since August 1st. Joe Blanton's (3-3) in his last 10, with the Phillies 5-5 with the right-hander on the mound.
• Going into tonight's game, the Washington Nationals are 3-13 in 16 against Philly this season, and they've been outscored by a combined total in 106-82.
• After going 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored last night, Raul Ibanez, who's hitting .279 with 31 HR's and 86 RBI's this season, has collected 28 hits, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 8 HR's and 21 RBI's in 16 games against the Nationals this season, posting a .424 AVG, a .486 OBP, .894 SLG and a 1.380 OPS against DC in '09.

''...we were tied for first place for the wild card, and we can't have September call-ups. We couldn't do any trades. They didn't want us to win.''
And on a day Dukes is featured in the preview .............
“…Dukes is in constant communication with interim manager Jim Riggleman, who wants Dukes to know that he’ll be in the lineup on an everyday basis.”
“You can’t have him wondering if he’s playing or not,” Riggleman said. “We are trying to get a read on next year, to see if he is a legitimate right fielder for next year.”

Yeah, I saw you got the silent treatment on the Vegas trip, like a rookie entering the dugout after his first home run......no wait, they high-fived Desmond!!!
So,…….. you win?

There was a flood in my hotel but unless I was sleepwalking, it couldn't have been my fault.
That’s a tough way to wake up at 4 in the morning. Water gushing out of the bathroom ceiling.
Vegas...
Shmegas…Now Bangkok, there’s a PartyTown!!!
Intrigued by Desmond…wanna see what happens when his scouting report gets around.
A matchup of 80ish MPH fastballs, HoHum…setting the Over/Under at 9 Dingers…

Let’s see if ¡Livan! can put together another good one. Hunter Wendlestedt isn’t behind the plate, so that’s a point in his favor.

The good news...
We’re done with the Fillies after Detwiler’s game tonight.
Already done with the Marlins.
We can at least beat the Braves and Mets.
The Dodgers may be able to rest players by the time we play them next week??? We can hope. Maybe we’d have a chance to win one game that way.
In other news, Ronnie Belliard had a double and a dinger in the Dodgers' 3-1 victory over the Pirates...
…he’s just as good as Desmond!
