Game 148: Lannan's efficiency no match for Cy Redding...
Ian Desmond (-0.178) finds himself as today's g0at, courtesy of an out misplayed into a double (later scoring the go-ahead run) and some key non-production at the plate. One of us! Pete Orr (-0.155) couldn't come through in the clutch, either, but no one else on the Nats was particularly good or bad otherwise. Tough luck for John Lannan (-0.084).

I give Riggleman a (-0.178) right along with Desmond...it's bad enough to start him....but leaving him in late in the game is ridiculous...
Was Dukes hurt? He got up to pinch hit late?
Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

"Had the Nationals taken the lead in the 7th, Riggleman actually planned to switch Desmond to second base, placing Pete Orr on the bench and sending Elijah Dukes to right. But with the game tied, he wanted to keep Orr's left-handed bat in the lineup"
…“keep Orr in the lineup”
…“keep Orr in the lineup”

CD3K is right. Riggles ruines speak like a pirate day.
He works out these stupid scenarios in his head. None of them made sense.

"We're last in the league in defense, so there's no wrong answers....." [yes there is, Riggler]
" We’ve got to try everything." Riggleman also said he wanted to get Pete Orr a start in Desmond’s spot at second base to keep Orr sharp. Elijah Dukes was the odd man out in the outfield. Dukes had reached base safely in his last 20 games, batting .381 during that stretch.

Yes, the odd man out, as in the one outfield hitting well...
Hope you don’t mind that you’re all quoted in today’s post…
Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

And we haven't seen the "Riggler's Sunday Lineup" yet....... hoots galore are in store....
Better make Desmond the odd man out, so that he can dwell on his failure…

"John Lannan was rolling through one of his best outings of the season........"
Thanks, Jim…… take the one real starter for granted……. Play these silly games on your XBox, not with real players…..
Pack your bags!!!

From FJB........ Guz on....... Zim at the plate...
"And Fizzleman called a hit-and-run. Sigh. He basically sacrifices his best hitter and opens first base with Dunn coming up. Just a terrible, terrible decision. Redding threw a slider way down out of the zone, and Zimm did well just to put a bat on this ball:
“It would have been a double-play if Redding hadn’t bobbled it, and Zimmerman let Riggleman know about it when he got to the dugout. Ever remember Zimmerman arguing with a manager, even a little? Me neither.”

More from Steven.......
…" if you ever find yourself managing a Major League Baseball team, and you’re considering the downside of taking Orr’s bat out of the line-up, please, give yourself a hard slap in the face."
I only see Orr as numbers and a mugshot, so I have to go on eyewitness accounts to fill out my perceptions…..Maybe he’s useful, but if he’s on the bench next year, then I think we may in trouble….
Better than Mackowiak!!!
