Game 155: Our team is terrible.
The Nats had plenty chances and they made the least of them. Tyler Clippard (+0.433) had some outstanding 7th-inning heroics to keep the game tied, but Mike MacDougal (-0.456) more than squandered them in a disastrous 3-run 10th. This season can't end soon enough.

Didn't have to lose......Hammer's throw to 3rd and Riggle's paralysis with Willie on 3rd and not PHing a LHB for Hammer or Dukes or both...
Pirates won in the bottom of the 9th, scoring 4 after LA scored 3 in the top……
“Milledge singled to right, McCutchen, LaRoche and Jones scored on right fielder Ethier´s fielding error.”
Tragic number is one….

Yea but we got to extra innings this time...
Who am I kidding? We stink.

How can this still be happening?......
"Josh, when he came in, he said, ‘I know I’ve got to throw that ball to second,’" Riggleman said. "But there’s four players involved in the play that can be yelling and communicating to get the ball to second base instead of throwing to third."

I've never seen a worse defensive team
im sorry but the coaches need to go and some new guys brought in next year. I thought that Grissom, Listach, etc would be a good fit but I just havent seen it. Maybe McCatty and Eck have done a decent job with the pitchers and hitters – but this team needs some serious help in terms of defensive coaching.

I think the tone was set in ST and they all defer to the manager...
I see it in my work when the continuity of experience is broken and a lot of time is wasted retreading old ground. And it takes a long time to get back to where things run smoothly, if it ever does….
The team on the field reflects the “team” of management.

Along that line of thought, this was over at the Braves blog about Bobby Cox leaving after next year
“Obviously the way things are done around here may change,” Jones said. “That could be good, could be bad. Guys around here are used to the way Bobby runs a camp, the way he runs a clubhouse and the way he runs a game. Something different could be culture shock…”
Until the players get “used to the way things are run” in this organization, then it will likely be the same old story….

Marquis had never even been a coach before, had he? If he’s supposed to be teaching these guys how to play outfield and steal bases…he’s a colossal failure.
I am on record a few weeks ago for spending the dollars to get a first class coaching staff in place. They can pay a really good coaching staff less than the cost of one free agent player, and the coaches can make way more of a difference.
And, if Dave Duncan really quits the Cardinals, let’s send an armored car full of money to his house and get him to DC.
Should we wear brown paper bags at Wednesday’s game? Do they even make brown paper bags anymore?
Anyway, we suck.

I get what Cat is saying about the manager...
And Acta did a terrible job of setting a decent tone. But I dont think the coaches have cut through this year either…and all need to move on for some 1st class talent (except maybe McCatty and Eck – who can legitimatly argue that they have produced some results).
