Nationals News: Wake me up for Spring Training Edition

Not too many links here today, folks, so if you're looking for more reading check out the coverage from yesterday.

Nationals News

The Washington Times argues that Nyjer Morgan has been the MVP of the Nationals this season.

Mike Morse is in a tough spot, having played primarily first and third, two of only three positions where the Nationals are rock solid.

Livan Hernandez thinks he's got another six years in him. I think he's crazy.

Star-divide

Mike MacDougal doesn't know what happened yesterday afternoon.

  Bill Ladson answers some questions!

  Yesterday's loss was terrible.

Non-Nationals News

The United States defeated Cuba 10-5 to win the baseball World Cup.

The Yankees clinched the AL East and home-field advantage with their win over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Not sure I agree with Nyjer Morgan as DC's MVP...

…with Zimm putting up the best #’s of his career…Dunn providing the fireworks…

I surely understand their argument...

We didn’t know what it was like to have a good CF and bunter/base stealer…then we did and things got better immediately…then he got hurt and we’re worse than ever.

Definitely understand the argument, but...

I’m going with Zimmerman. As Ed said, the best numbers of his career and Gold Glove quality defensive work, but if Morgan had played here all season, he’d have a shot.

Late addition plus the early injury exit...sorry. NMISMH!!! (Nyjer Morgan Is Still My Hero)

Was a spark plug, truly changed the atmosphere and not just with cool nicknames, but aggressive, intense play, Hammer, Morgan Dukes on 20-10!!!

Correction - "Non-Slumping" Hammer in left...this recent slumpy Hammer I could do without...

+1 on Zim

You cant have a guy who has played less than half a season with a team be their MVP. Zim has played career best all year and when not in the lineup? Suprise we suck more than usual.

Morgan was and is a wonderful impact player who is desperately needed – but he isnt the MVP this year for me. Another one to ponder is Lannan… I know he took his knocks early in the season but to me has been the best pitcher on a woeful staff. With decent run support, defense…heck, lets just say a better team… Lannan would be close to a 15 game winner.

Padilla walked into the Nats' clubhouse for the first time and said, "My God. I'm in heaven."

•Heyman addresses some of the lesser-heralded free agents in the upcoming class and estimates how much they will receive in their new deals. Here are his guesses: Mark DeRosa, $24MM over three years; Nick Johnson, $16MM over two years; Adam LaRoche, $25MM over three years; Joel Pineiro, $15MM over two years.

if i'd told me at the begining of the season...

Nick and Guz would finish within .008 of each other in slugging, you’d have slapped me and called me a hater.

Livan has another 6 years

As long as teams do not mind 200 innings with an era of 5.50. I think he needs a new pitch or something to get those hits down. He does not miss many bats anymore.
