Nationals News: Back to the Grind Edition

After a nice, relaxing long weekend, it's time to report back to work. Here goes...

Nationals News

As the season nears its close, it's time to talk awards. Ryan Zimmerman has a good shot at the NL Gold Glove for third basemen because he's been so awesome this year. Chico Harlan also did a more statistics-oriented look at Zimmerman.

The Nationals have called up pitchers Ross Detwiler, Marco Estrada, Logan Kensing, Zack Segovia and shortstop Ian Desmond from Syracuse.

There are likely going to be many changes in the Nats' bullpen in the offseason. MLBTR covered the bullpen as well.

Star-divide

With the September callups in full swing, Nationals Pride looks at the starting rotation.

Nats Farm Authority sums up at the final day in minor league baseball.

The relationship between Syracuse and the Nationals has been beneficial for the Chiefs, who were in playoff contention this season.

DC Sports Plus considers the Nats' possibilities in left field.

Non-Nationals News

Ichiro Suzuki has become the second fastest player to 2,000 hits. Congratulations, Ichiro!

With their loss to the Cubs, the Pirates set a major league record for most consecutive losing seasons, at 17. Remember Nationals fans: things could be a lot worse!

Zimm has the second most errors of any third baseman. I know they call the award gold GLOVE and not gold ACCURATE THROWER….but I think regardless of trying to prove the point with other statistics…he probably shouldn’t win. I’d love it if he does win, but I won’t be surprised or upset if he doesn’t.

True, but I think part of the argument is that his range is so huge, he’s getting a lot of balls other third basemen don’t, giving him more opportunities for error. This is not to excuse his errors, but it may be a part of the reason.

I agree, when it's applicable.

But most of his throwing errors are on routine throws…and most of those were when Nick was over at 1B.

Ah, what I wouldn't give to combine Dunn's bat with Johnson's glove...

Zimmerman has only committed 2 errors in the last 46 games. Hopefully that gets taken into account.

Yeah...

But this is the Gold Glove we’re talking about, so how do Zimmerman’s offensive stats match up against Kouzmanoff’s? (laughs mischievously)…

Vivian Jaffe: "Have you ever transcended space and time?"
Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

Great, now I'm stuck like the guy in Mallrats...

Staring at this and trying to see the schooner!! I don’t think they work if you’re colorblind…

Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

It’s not a schooner… it’s a sailboat!
