Washington Nationals: Orlando Hudson Or Orlando Cabrera?
• Orlando Cabrera, one of two infield options, (along with Adam Kennedy), that the Washington Nationals were reportedly considering should they be unable to sign their prime target, free agent second baseman Orlando Hudson, was, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal's Tweet last night, " ...deciding between offers from (the) #Reds and #Rockies." MLB.com's Bill Ladson, while acknowledging the Nationals' primary interest was in Hudson in an article entitled, "Nationals among Cabrera's suitors", inserted the Nationals into the chase for 35-year-old Cabrera, writing that Hudson's, "...asking price continues to be too high, according to a baseball source," so the Nationals were still, "... in the running for free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera, another Major League source confirmed to MLB.com on Thursday night."
• In an update of FOXSports.com's Buzz: Latest from the MLB offseason" by Ken Rosenthal, which was subtitled, "Indians trying to make room for Hudson", Mr. Rosenthal spins a hypothetical situation in which he speculates that the Indians could trade starter Fausto Carmona, "...to clear money for free-agent second baseman Orlando Hudson," though he acknowledges that, "...the possibility is unlikely to come to fruition, according to major-league sources." Could Manny Acta really steal Hudson out from under the Nationals' noses? Ridiculous right...but I seem to remember FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal throwing out one of these crazy hypothetical trade scenarios a few days before another big deal this winter...hmmm? According to Mr. Rosenthal, "The Nationals are widely perceived to be the front-runner (for Hudson), but the Twins also are interested and other clubs are in the mix."
• Hotstove.com's Tom Reese asked a group of internet writers covering the Nationals to decide which infielder, Orlando Hudson or Orlando Cabrera was best for the Washington infield in an article entitled, "We Forced Nationals Bloggers To Choose: Orlando Hudson Or Orlando Cabrera?", where five of the six writers asked chose the same option...(ed. note - "I chose Hudson...Also, I'll be appearing on HotStove.com's radio show this afternoon at 1:00 pm EST, I'll let anyone who's interested now if it streams live or is archived...")

Ed, I was wondering....
Bill Ladson said that O. Cabrera played 33 or so games for the Expos in 2000. Who was the shortstop during that time?………Also, I would have no problem having his bat in the line up…He seems to still be a clutch hitter……..
Cabrera at second base
Hi,
According to www.baseball-almanac.com, Cabrera played 4 games at second base during the 1997 season, 28 games during the 1998 season and only 1 game during the 2000 season.
During the 1998 season, Mike Mordecai played 30 games at shortstop.
I was a big fan of the Montreal Expos, and I saw Cabrera played a lot of game at shortstop. All I can say is that he is a very good clutch hitter, even if he doesn’t have a lot of power. Cabrera is a very sound man, has a superb attitude, is a good player to have in a clubhouse and he is a proven winner.
Hudson asks 8 or 9 millions. If Cabrera asks 3 millions, picking him instead of the other Orlando is a no-brainer.
As your probably recognized it, english is not my native language. So, I apologize if I put some errors here and there.
Thanks for answering...

I think RIzzo is quietly playing a big game of chicken...
…and now this is the time to make the decision.
Give Hudson a deadline and a dollar figure. If the deadline passes by one minute, hope that Cabrera is still available.
Otherwise, uh, the Nats may be screwed.
All this talk can’t be making Desmond feel too hot.
Worst-Case scenario is an improvement
I don’t think we have to make a big deal if the Nats don’t sign either Hudson or Cabrera. The worst-cast scenario will be to put Guzman at second and Desmonds at short and it will be an improvement from last year.
By doing so, they’ll have more money to sign a one starting pitcher. Can’t wait to spring training.
And in front of the St. Lawrence River, at l’Isle-Verte, Québec, where I live, we have our first arctic blizzard of the winter. Chilly
I get the feeling that the Nationals don’t want to entrust SS to Desmond with no safety blanket.
I definitely trust Rizzo.
Oralndo (Cabrera) to reportedly choose today
Nats aren’t one of his choices.
