Washington Nationals: 2010 Draft Watch...Keith Law's Top Prospects.
• ESPN.com's Keith Law offered his, "Preliminary Top 50 2010 draft prospects", this afternoon, and three of the four pitchers I've been looking at as possibilities should the Washington Nationals decide against drafting 17-year-old phenom Bryce Harper no.1 overall, are the top three pitchers available in the upcoming (in June) MLB 2010 First-Year Player Draft according to Mr. Law, with Ole Miss left-hander Drew Pomeranz so far down on this particular list that it would be hard to consider him a possibility as a no.1 overall selection, but the rest of the pitchers from the top of every scout's list: Anthony Ranaudo (RHP, LSU), Deck McGuire (RHP, Georgia Tech) and The Woodlands High School right-hander Jameson Taillon join College of Southern Nevada catcher Bryce Harper as the top pitching and position prospects who are eligible for this year's draft...
In an article accompanying the list entitled, "Bryce Harper starts on top", ESPN.com's Keith Law narrows DC GM Mike Rizzo and the Nationals' options down to three players, noting that in the history of the Draft, no prep school pitcher has ever been taken first overall, so with Jameson Taillon a tradition-breaking longshot, it's Harper, McGuire and Ranaudo at the top of the list the Nationals should be considering...hmm....where have I seen that list of players before?
• Want to see another Bryce Harper HR? Here's #3...
(ed. note - "I'll have updates on Ranaudo and McGuire's 2010 debuts later tonight...")

Much tougher draft this year?
Looks like it’s tougher to get a standout #1 then last year.

Especially when Law goes on to say that neither of the two college pitchers projects as a no.1 starter-type...
So you’ve got a 17-year-old catcher and two #2 starters…

Think us have to take the best bat- but I could understand if it's an arm
Harper would add to the hype thou.

Harper or Not
This is where I really trust the RZO. I know he will make the right scouting call. I expect Harper to be the choice but I can see some reasons to go with the college guys. Even if Harper is a stud I worry he is a few years too young to peak with our young Nats.
Harper is 17 and even the best case scenario doesn’t have him competing highly until he is 22 (a la Justin Upton)
The college pitchers are both 20 and would fit better with the chart below. We should have a lot of players in their peak age 25-30 seasons in 4 years.
Here are the April 1 ages of our Nats:
Zimmerman 25
Zimmermann 23
Storen 22
Strasburg 21
Norris 21
If RZO goes with Harper as I expect, I hope the team will still spend in the other rounds. It would be nice to get some more college talent that can come up with Norris, Strasburg and Storen. Especially if we are waiting a while for Harper. Give me Jarrett Parker from Virginia in the 2nd round.
With Rizzo, Mr. Rizzo and Roy Clark...
I’m extremely confident in the Nats’ scouting and look forward to seeing all the Atlanta-based high schoolers they start drafting…

I think Anthony Ranaudo is a no.1 starter.
He is really good, and in any other year(except last year) he would be taken no.1 overall.
Orakpo!!! Russel Okung next year!
I'll be watching closely too see if anyone separates themselves....
Or can actually overtake Harper…but he is still killing the ball…Wish there was some way to judge his defensive skills…
