2010 NL East Fan Projections: SPs

2010 NL East Fan Projections: SPs

This is a link to a post I did over at the Braves blog Talking Chop about some of FanGraphs' 2010 fan projections, including projections for the Nationals' starters.  I thought it would be relevant to you guys, so head on over to take a look if you're interested.  There are lots of cool graphs, too.  (Just to forewarn you: the Nats' rotation doesn't come out well in these projections.  Feel free to leave a comment explaining why you think that won't be the case.)

Those spider graphs, whatever you want to call them are my new favorite thing...

The Nationals will dominate HR/9 allowed!!!

Wait, I’m not good with stats, that’s a good thing right?

Yikes, I wonder what the management sees in Marquis that isn’t showing up here…Mock looks to be just as good, if not better.

Portraying Marquis as a no.1 isn't fair...he'd be 3-4 on any other team...

I think the Nationals see a “guaranteed” 30+ starts and 200 IP…a lot less stress on the bullpen and less work for their young arms, plus a tough guy attitude they hope will infect the rest of the starters…

I do think Mock will make the rotation too, though not many are counting him in...

Rizzo obviously likes him and Riggleman always seems to work his name in to conversations about starters…

I said that when we got him.

Management made changes this offseason that made it look like to casual fans that they were improving the team, but besides possibly Wang the sum of the changes we made are not much of an improvement. A small improvement made with older Free agents is not what I wanted this offseason, but that is what we got.

I agree for the most part

This team didn’t really make significant net improvements, but as for your comment about older free agents: what else would you suggest? “Younger free agents” is almost an oxymoron, and Marquis isn’t that old. I’m fine with getting guys who are 30-31, I’d just rather have better talents.

We're all Eeyore's on this Bus....

Uninspiring acquisitions best described as, “…at least he can’t possibly be as bad as ____ was last year…” maybe…

Pudge did say Capps was ready….that’s a positive. I’m just hoping for a surprise or two, and avoiding some roster clogging deadweights from hamstringing the Riggler…
And Riggler not doing goofy stuff….a tolerable 2010

well I trust Pudge's judgement on Capps

Here’s to hoping all the chips fall right and we threaten for the wild card!!!

people are giving Rodriguez waaaaaay too much credit

he’s never been known in baseball as a particularly good mentor. and there were rumors in Houston if a guy got on first, he’d call for fastballs exclusively to give himself the chance to throw the guy out instead of pitching to the hitter.
