Nationals News
Bill Ladson caught up with Jim Riggleman for an interview yesterday. The more I read from Riggleman, the more I like him.
Jesus Flores, who underwent shoulder surgery last September, has left Spring Training to spend 10-14 days with orthopedist James Andrews.
Adam Kilgore wraps up yesterday's loss to the Cardinals, which sent the Nats to 0-8 in Spring Training... hrm... It doesn't appear that the Nats are too worried.
Adam Kilgore has made his guess as to the Nats' 2010 25-man roster.
Mike Rizzo makes it clear that Strasburg's success is not going to change his long-term plans for Strasburg. This is good to hear.
Big League Stew projects a 2010 comparable to 2009 for Ryan Zimmerman, but a 2011 with great potential.
Josh Willingham's journey to the majors was a long and interesting one.
Cristian Guzman has left the team to be with his wife, who is undergoing induced labor and will be having a daughter soon.
Garrett Mock thinks Pudge Rodriguez throws harder than he does, and Matt Capps has given up a run in three consecutive games.
Non-Nationals News
Cliff Lee was solid in his first Spring Training start, giving up one run on five hits over three innings.

Mike Morse
In regards to Adam Kilgore’s Post article, I am a bit baffled by the Jayson Werth comparisons for Mike Morse. I think this is the second or third time I have seen these comparisons and I don’t understand the connection. Both are tall and skinny, check. Both play multiple positions, ya okay. That is where the comparisons end. Morse had a good year in 44 games with the Nats in the minors last year but you could compare that to any 27 year old having a decent year. Morse hits for relatively little power, certainly less than Werth and does not steal bases. Werth’s value comes as a 20/20 guy in the heart of the order…?
Utterly baffled. Someone help.

Werth took a while to finally realize his potential
not that i personally think Mike Morse is going to turn into Jayson Werth 2.0, but Morse did come up with “potential” labelled on him, as Werth did, and Werth definitely took a while to develop. Maybe Morse follows the same path. the comparisons at the same ages suggest it’s a possibility, and Nats fans will hang their hat on almost any shred of possible good news.

But thats my point...
the comparison’s lie only in age…absolutely nothing more specific than that. So to throw out Jayson Werth is really misrepresenting the two the players substantially and what they actually offer. Even if Morse does blossom, and becomes a decent MLB player, he will not play like Werth.
I’d be more inclined to throw out a name like David Dejesus based on his playing style. Mark Teahen for his versatility, and offense, and maybe Garrett Jones for a late bloomer who could have immediate impact at the big league level with similar numbers.

i think they are primatily comparing their OPS+ numbers at similar age
which takes into account overall production, not cherry-picking certain stats to compare..
