From an MLB.com article by Peter Gammons:
"The Nationals have been looking for another veteran starting pitcher, but privately, they're hoping that come midseason, their rotation will be John Lannan, Jason Marquis, Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and Chien-Ming Wang.
"'We're having trouble holding Wang back,' said GM Mike Rizzo."

Jordan Zimmermann???
By mid season? That does not seem reasonable . I think next year is questionable for him at best.. They say Tommy John surgery takes that long. to recover from.
Second person recently who's said Zimmermann could be back early...
I agree with Dave below, Why? Aug/Sept at the earliest, next season if necessary, just make sure that power arm is ready…

Albert Markovski: "Yes. No. Uh, time, not space... No, I don't know what you're talking about."

Zimmermann last night said he's throwing from 120 feet...
I was hoping for an August return for him.
Great to see him looking healthy though...

I agree. This arm is an arm the Nats are going to need well after this season, so there’s no sense rushing him back. If he’s 100% at anytime during this season, sure it’s fine, but no bringing him back when he’s just 80 or 90%.

No sense rushing Zimmermann back
Two straight 59 win seasons…. I liked some of what happened in the offseason (not as high on the Marquis signing as some of you are, I’m sure… unfortunately, living in St. Louis, I’ve seen him pitch quite a bit) with the Capps, Kennedy, and Wang signings. Still, I’m not going to fool myself into thinking that the current team really has a chance of winning more than they lose. An ultra-optimistic projection would top off around the .500 mark.
It’d be one thing if there were a shot at the playoffs and the recovering J-Zimm would be an upgrade over someone in the rotation, but I just can’t see that happening. Let him get completely healthy, and don’t try to bump the timetable on his recovery up. It’ll only lead to more problems down the road. If Jordan Zimmermann ends up pitching in Washington this season, the Nats have gone crazy.
