Washington Nationals Make Cuts; Strasburg, Storen to Minors
The Washington Nationals made several roster cuts today, including sending 2009 No. 1 overall draft pick Stephen Strasburg and his fellow first round pick Drew Storen to the minors today.
Strasburg was assigned to AA Harrisburg, and Storen reassigned to minor league camp, with the probable assignment to Harrisburg as well.
LHPs Matt Chico and Doug Slaten and C Jamie Burke were also reassigned to minor league camp.
The cuts bring the roster to 39.

This is what we all figured would happen
And it make the most sense for the team and for Strasburg. it’ll give him 10 or so starts to pitch on a regular five-day schedule, limit his innings a little bit, get him adjusted to being a pro ballplayer. Also, in the minds of the old-school, he’ll have to ride the bus for a few weeks just like everyone else.
It saves the team a bunch of money and delays his arbitration and free agency. one would hope that if he turns out to be the pitcher that the team would sign him long-term before free agency, but this is insurance against that.
Storen just needs to throw some more. he’ll be here soon enough.

Apparently Stras must have seen the competition and decided differently...

i like the fact he thought he was going to make the team
but that was never a possibility. they were both destined for eight weeks (or so) in the minors.
