Washington Nationals Cut Three, Trim Spring Roster to 36

The Washington Nationals pared their spring training roster by three this morning, sending RHP Shairon Martis to Triple-A Syracuse, and reassigned INF Pete Orr and OF Chris Duncan to minor league camp. The Nats now have 36 players in camp. Martis has not shown the development team officials would have liked to have seen this spring. Orr and Duncan provide organizational depth at this point in their careers. Duncan, thought to be able to compete for an OF/1B backup job, seems to have lost out to Mike Morse for that slot. The Nats face the New York Mets today from Viera, FL. Jason Marquis is scheduled to start for Washington.
