Washington Nationals: Stephen Strasburg vs Nats' Minor Leaguers On Twitter.

If you weren't in Florida this morning the only way to get info on Stephen Strasburg's start in an intrasquad game at Nats' minor league camp was to follow the Nationals beat writers on Twitter, where they were providing inning by inning updates. According to Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore (@AdamKilgoreWP), after Strasburg's first pitch, the batter turned to Nats' catching prospect Sean Rooney, (who worked with Strasburg and Storen in the Arizona Fall League and was behind the plate this morning) and asked, "What was that?"

@NatsTownNews reports that Strasburg retired the side in order in the first, throwing 17 pitches, 11 for strikes and striking out 2 with a fastball that, "...topped out at 98 MPH." MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) tweeted that Strasburg retired the side in order in the second, while @NatsTownNews noted that he did so with an identical pitch and strike count from the first, 17 pitches, 11 strikes, with the Post's Adam Kilgore adding that opponents had hit, "...0 balls out of IF." MLB.com's Bill Ladson wrote that Strasburg had some trouble in the third, letting two on with one out, before striking out the next two batters he faced for a third scoreless frame, 20 pitches, 11 strikes, 6 K's total after 3.0 IP, according to @NatsTownNews. Strasburg needed just 14 pitches to strike out the side in the fourth according to the WaPost's Adam Kilgore, who wrote, "...14 pitches, three batters, three Ks in the 4th. Strasburg has 9 Ks thru 4. 11 swing-and-misses in 68 pitches." Strasburg's day, and the game apparently, ended with a fourth inning in which he struggled, as Mr. Kilgore's coverage concluded with the following Tweet:

"Tough last inning for Strasburg. 8 of last 10 pitches were balls. In 4 1/3, he walked 3, allowed 1 hit and struck out 9."

The last word from @NatsTownNews

"Strasburg pitching line - 4.1 innings, 1 hit, 3 walks, 9 strikeouts. 79 pitches, 46 strikes. Only 2 balls made it out of infield. #Nats

And MLB.com's Bill Ladson (@washingnats) :

"MGR Randy Knorr assumes RHP Stephen Strasburg will be his Opening Day starter for Double A Harrisburg."

• The Senators' Opening Game is on April 8th against the Altoona Curve (PIT), Strasburg's still in line for the April 3rd exhibition in NatsTown, will the Nationals let the DC Faithful see the reward for '08's 102 loss campaign?
