Spring Game Thread: Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves.
The Washington Nationals were 8-10 against Atlanta last season, 8-10 against New York, 6-12 against Florida and 3-15 against Philadelphia. The Marlins, who finished 6.0 games behind Philly, and the Braves, who finished 7.0 games out of first, have every right to be cross with DC's Nationals for practically handing the Phillies the NL East, and the Braves get their first chance at payback (Zito-on-Fielder-style) this afternoon when the Nationals and Braves meet for the first of four games the teams will play this Spring, in Champion Stadium, Atlanta's Disney-based ST home. Miguel Batista will be on the mound for the Nationals in the first two innings, with Derek Lowe throwing for Atlanta. Batista's (4-5), with a career 5.86 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, .295 BAA, 6.01 K/9 and 3.39 BB/9 against Atlanta in 9 starts and 9 career relief appearances over his 15-year MLB seasons. Lowe's (6-4) with 3 saves, a 3.68 ERA, 2.79 WHIP, .264 BAA, 6.69 K/9 and 3.23 BB/9 in 80.2 IP against Montreal/DC over 13 MLB seasons. The action starts at 1:05 pm EST, it's available through MLB.com's Gameday audio for sure, any other options anyone finds can be included in the comments...
DC Starting Lineup after the JUMP...
• According to several sources at this point, Today's DC Starting Lineup vs Atlanta:
- Roger Bernadina - LF
- Adam Kennedy - 2B
- Ryan Zimmerman - 3B
- Adam Dunn - Chris Duncan - 1B
- Elijah Dukes - RF
- Ivan Rodriguez - C
- Justin Maxwell - CF
- Mike Morse - DH
- Ian Desmond - SS
- Miguel Batista - RHP
NOTES: A certain Nationals' starter is doing an interview with @MustacheTalk, guess which Washington pitcher it is? A few days back, MLB.com's Bill Ladson reported via Twitter that, "RHP Craig Stammen will pitch after Miguel Batista on Friday", as he attempts to earn either a starting spot or a bullpen role. Rumors had Cristian Guzman making his Spring debut today, but it isn't going to happen today according to Washington Post writer Adam Kilgore. The most important Tweet of the day so far though, comes from MASNSports.com Ben Goessling (@masnNATS), who wrote this morning that, "Tuesday's #Nats-#Tigers game, also known as the Strasburg Game...will be picked up on MLB.tv." I feel a cold coming on Monday night...
