Spring Training Game Thread: Washington Nationals at New York Mets.

If MLB.com's Bill Ladson's tweeted facts are accurate, "Ivan Rodriguez, Adam Kennedy and Elijah Dukes are the only #Nats regulars who are playing against the Mets on Sunday," when New York and Washington play the Sunday matinee in Port St. Lucie, Florida's Tradition Field. DC right-hander Jason Marquis will be making his first start in a curly-W since signing with Washington this winter against the Mets' lefty Oliver Perez, who's reportedly been receiving instruction from the greatest lefties of all time, (and quiet down Philadelphia, no one's talking about Carlton)...The Dodgers' legendary lefty Sandy Koufax paid a visit to Perez earlier this Spring, as recounted by NY Daily News writer Bill Madden in an article entitled, "Dodgers great Sandy Koufax drops by Port St. Lucie, gives New York Mets' pitchers advice", where the Hall of Fame veteran of eleven seasons in Brooklyn and Los Angeles is said to have told Perez, in Perez's own words, "'...about consistency and how it was so important to concentrate every time, to land the same way,'" or as Koufax says simply, "'You can't control the ball unless you can control your body.'" Perez was (3-4) with a 6.82 ERA (60 ERA+, 6.40 FIP) in 14 GS and 66.0 IP over which he walked 58 (7.9 BB/9) and struck out 62 (8.5 K/9) in a season that was shortened by knee issues which resulted in the 28-year-old lefty undergoing season-ending surgery in late August...Jason Marquis made 33 starts for the Rockies in 2009, finishing the season (15-13) with a 4.04 ERA (113 ERA+, 4.10 FIP) in 216.0 IP over which the 31-year-old right-hander walked 80 (3.3 BB/9) and struck out 115 (4.8 K/9)...and according to reports, left-hander Matt Chico is set to return to the mound once Marquis is done...

Game Time: 1:05 pm EST. on MLB.tv and ch.11 in NY/NJ.
