The Nationals lost this game so suddenly and so thoroughly that no one had a chance to a make a play worth more than 0.083 WPA (Craig Counsell's single to put runners on the corners in the 2nd AB of the game). Jason Marquis is the goat, and his terrible no-out performance was worth -0.393. Miguel Batista added -0.077 to pretty much shut down all hope. The Nats tried to claw back, with Ivan Rodriguez (+0.041) and Ian Desmond (+0.064) both helping to add back some runs--but the hole was too deep.
