Washington Nationals: Scott Olsen Out After 2.0 IP, Colorado Rockies 10-4.

• QUICK RECAP:

Scott Olsen threw just nine pitches as he breezed through the first inning of tonight's game against the visiting (and mourning, sorry Rockies!) Colorado Rockies, mixing an 86 mph change with a 90-91 mph fastball to retire the first three batters he faced before he surrendered a HR to the fourth, Rockies' shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who laid off three pitches low in the zone and forced the Nationals' left-handed starter to throw him a 3-1 fastball that came in up and over the plate at 88 mph and went out over the left-center wall for a leadoff shot in the second that put Washington down 1-0. Two outs later, Olsen issued a two-out walk to Colorado catcher Miguel Olivo and gave up an RBI line drive double Ian Stewart, who scored Olivo from second without a throw to the plate when Ian Desmond dropped the relay throw in from center. 2-0 Rockies after one.

A leadoff triple by Rockies' outfielder Dexter Fowler was followed by three-straight singles off Olsen in the second, as Colorado scored two more and chased the Nats' starter in favor of right-handed reliever Tyler Walker who gave up an RBI single to Melvin Mora, a two-out walk to Ian Stewart, to load the bases, and a two-out double to the opposing pitcher Jorge De La Rosa, who cleared the bases and then scored scored himself on a two-run HR by Ryan Spilborghs, who made it 10-0 after three with his second HR of the season. Olsen ends the night having given up 7 hits, 1 HR, 6 ER and 1 BB in 2.0 IP over which he throws 51 pitches, 33 for strikes before ending his night early. Nats' lefty Jesse English and fellow relievers Brian Bruney, Sean Burnett and Tyler Clippard held the Rockies off the board after Walker finished two scoreless, and the Nationals added two runs in the fifth on a Ryan Zimmerman HR, and two in the sixth on run-scoring hits by Ian Desmond and Cristian Guzman, but that's as close as the Nats get. Rockies win. 10-4 final.
