Game 20: Bruney = FAIL

20100426_nationals_cubs_0_83_lbig__medium

via www.fangraphs.com

  • Failest play/player: Brian Bruney (-0.219) walks in the losing run in extras (-0.165).
  • Tiny moment of hope: Wil Nieves (-0.030) singles in the tying run in the 6th (+0.140)
  • Bright spots in landscape of despair: Tyler Walker (+0.130) has a solid 1.1 IP in relief while Adam Dunn is 3-5 (+0.124) with a double.
  • Good Lannan or bad? John Lannan (+0.012) somehow manages a quality start in spite of 5 hits, 5 walks and only one K in 6 IP.

Why would you keep Bruney in there?

Tied and we put him in? I don’t get it. Maybe he should borrow clip’s goggles.

"Clipp's MAGIC goggles," adds Mrs Doghouse.

MOAR G0GGL3Z!

(They worked for Atilano, too.)

Hammer had a good game tonight, too: 2-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored (+0.111).

It was a good game...

The Nationals kept the Cubs from scoring a lot (unlike the Brewers this past weekend) and made them work for the win. The wind helped and hurt both teams. And yes, Bruney did not help the Nationals at all. Time to find someone else for the bullpen?

Not to worry, tomorrow is another day. I wouldn’t go out on the ledge just yet, it’s still full of Orioles fans. And now I must return to the lab and do some online shopping for Gucci and Ed Hardy items…

well…at least this year its just one or maybe two relief pitchers that are blowing up…easier to replace one or two than a whole pen like last year.

Ian Desmond is my hero!

Obnoxious.

Is it just me or did Bruney not seem too concerned in the post-game interview? I feel bad for everyone. I understand that you can’t go to Clippard and Capps everyday, but it was a crappy way to lose a ballgame.

As you know, I’m a Cubs fan also, but I would have rather they won the game by getting a hit and clearing the bases, not douchebaggery by the pitcher. Throw a freakin’ strike for a change.

Patiently waiting for "next year" since 1971.

Brian Bruney isn't doing much for me

Is MacDougal off the 7-day minor league DL yet?

Why not us? Why not now?
